Light came on. 47k on the clock.
I started the truck 4am. Frost on the windows and decided to wait for the (Wait to start) light to go out for the first time scince new. "I thought it would like warmer air than was out side. "
light has been on for 2 full days. 16 start and stops. All gauges are running normal. EGT seems to run slightly warmer under load.
The only thing different is that I drained my AmsOil and put in Delco400 with a WIX filter two days earlier. Oil preasure is exactly normal and engine is cool and quiet.
Any thoughts?

What, if any engine mods?

Cycle the ignition key 3 times (on/off) and you should get a code that shows up over the odometer.

Any loss of power or anything?

Any loss of power or anything? Everything is running perfect. Power and speed are normal, and the milage though down is consistant with the adverage since my accident. Dealer striped truck down to rear end and truck bed durring repairs.

I have had the same thing happen to me three times. It was the fuel cap. Be sure that you hear 3 or 4 'clicks' when tightening it.

I took my Y2K into the dealer the first time the CHECK ENGINE light stayed on, only one day after I bought the truck, and they asked if I had just filled up the tank. They had the truck all day, but they said they just took off the fuel cap and then put it on with 3 'clicks' and the light went off.
It happened again about six months later and I forgot about the '3 click' thing so I called the dealer to make an appointment but the gal that answered to phone told me to turn the cap '3 clicks. ' That fixed it. The last time was about 3 months ago, and I remembered. #ad

Where is Tustin, CA? I am on my way out to San Diego and could do a scan on your truck and try to clear the code for you, saving you a trip to the dealer. Just happen to have my laptop and OBD software, let me know if that will work for you.

Tustin, AKA Santa Ana. Site of the worlds largest wooden structures. 3 old hangars made during WWII to store blimps in. Use to be a Marine Air Station. They closed it down. They still keep blimps in them like the Goodyear and such.

That sounds great. My cell # is 714-328-1416.
The gas cap thing is not it. "For me any-way"
5-1/2 days now with the light on.
"I was looking to see if the MAX boost level was normal at the same time as the local sheriff was looking for pot-hole money for the city. " DOOOPE!! "First time in 7-8 years, guess I can't complain"

You can always try disconnecting your batteries for an hour or so. That should clear the codes. At least it shuts off the lights until the next code is set.

Mr. B,
Will give you a call Saturday morning if it doesn't clear by then. Down here without the wife and kids so time isn't a factor.

Mike

Thanks for the help guys, I will pull the cabels for tonight and am looking forward to seeing what Cryppie's computer sayes about the system in my truck. "I think maybe it will show red flags, I have in the (PAST) seen fuel milage go from 20mpg to 9. 5 at the next tank full durring a exact same commute. "
Normally I didn't have more than . 5mpg differance tank to tank.

CRYPIE,
You didn't call!
Light is still on now 1 full week.
I guess I will call the dealer on wed. Hate to give up the truck for a day and only get 5 min. of attention(repair)

Mr. B
Let me apologize for not calling this weekend. The modem on my laptop DIED and just got it back up about 20 minutes ago. I will be leaving for home, Denver, on Friday, but could get with you one evening this week. Let me know when is convienent for you.

Mike

Wed/Thur/Friday would be fine. If you want me to meet you at any particular spot let me know.
I-15 if that is what you are travaling on is only 25-miles north of me. If that is the way you are going. Better Yet I have a friend that lives off of the I-15 at 6th st.
I could meet you there and save you 50miles.
Let me know! mike b.
And THANK YOU again!

Mike,
Let's shoot for Friday PM, I'll be on my way up 15 anyway toward Vegas, so that would work better for me. I should be able to be up around your neck of the woods by 5 or so, will that work for you? I have your cell number and can call just before I leave SD to set up place and time. Let me know.

Mike

The reason that I drained the Amsoil is that I didn't have enough oil for a change and I had disconected the duel bypass filter 20 miniuits after I installed it. "The engine temp. went up 10deg. and sounded slightly rough, and the oil presure was down 15psi at idel and 30 at load. "
I didn't like the results of this.
I also let my AmsOil licence run out.
By the way less than 2 days after the check engine light went on! I don't know if it was related or not, YET!

"a bit" Earler or "few hours later" would be better for me. I am taking my Girl out for B-Day dinner at 6pm in orange at a FU-FU resturant.

Mike,
Not a problem, I'll get on the road as soon as I finish class. Should put me up there by 3 or so. I'll give you a call right before I leave here.

Mike

If Cryppie does not arrive soon. I have a DC scanner and live very close. E-mail me johnhbd50@yahoo.com and we can meet somewhere.
John
