I have a1998 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel 5 speed the check engine light came on but has no codes registered, truck runs great with no problems, I clear the check engine light with a scanner and it's fine until I turn the truck off and restarted then the light comes back on, has anyone had this experience before?

does the 98's do the key trick? Try checking the small wires to the heater grid relays. My 01 will turn on the CEL on start when the wire comes loose, but it throws a code also.

Well after a week of troubleshooting and trying to figure out what's going on with my truck I purchased a new ignition switch only to pull up a code of P1692 and only thing I find on the web is that it's a companion code and Might be a turbo control solenoid circuit malfunction, but don't know if that is correct or not. Any help would be appreciated.

P1692 DTC Set In ECM A Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.

I've never seen a 1692 but according to my codes list its redundant to the 1693.

How are you pulling codes up?

I'm using a Actron Autoscanner Plus, it said P1692 was confirmed I have tried to pull other codes as it says it's a companion code and now it says there is no codes I was able to pull that code after I disconnected and charged the batteries replaced the ignition swtch. Now the truck has no codes and the check engine light is on, i'm lost as there is no information for P1692 code and my scanner says no DTC information available to see shop manua

I copied and pasted the exact description of the code above in my previous post out of the 24 valve code list.

If your that concerned about the CEL you may have to find someone with a better scan tool, either a DRB or a Snap on. The Actrons are more of a generic "one size fits all" and not specific to the Chrysler communication system.

I'm concerned because it could let me down when I least expected, and you know if the CEL is on there is a reason for it, I was thinking possibly getting the computer reflashed as a last resort. I will try to find a Snap On scanner

Thanks

Ok I tried a Snap On scanner and a Snap On Bluepoint scanner and they both show no codes I took my truck out for a 30 plus mile drive and the system showed the following monitors as incomplete since I disconnected my battries to charge, fuel system monitor, misfire monitor and comp componet monitor since my drive all supported monitors show ok but my check engine light is still on and have no codes registered. "HELP". Does anyone out there have an idea? My truck runs like it always has strong with lots of torque

No I don't have a programmer but I'm thinking possibly getting my computer reflashed it's about the only thing I can think of at this time the truck has 197,000 plus miles and Dodge recalled it in late 1998 and they reflashed the computer at around 2,000 miles

Go to the next Dealer and use a DRBIII, you can't have a misfire code on that Diesel - the SnapOn tells you crap also.

Either a lost connection to the map sensor or a failing map sensor can do the same thing.

Greeting Everyone

Like I said in earlier reply I went out for a drive and was able to clear all monitors in scanner but still had the check engine light on, I decided to change the fuel filter and clear codes in the computer (none were present) but I said what the heck there's nothing to loose by doing that the check engine light would go off at least until the next time I would start the truck, again I went for a drive shut the truck off and restarted to my surprise no cel and no codes it has been 5 days now and no cel on I don't if the fuel filter was doing it or what but everything is back to normal cel comes on fuel pump charges the filter and goes off truck starts and runs like a champ.
I want to thank all that replied, The Turbo Register is Great

"ThanksAgain"
