Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) check engine light P0216 code

I have a 2002 Dodge Diesel, High Output with 6 speed manual transmission. Banks installed the Power Pac about nine months ago and it is performing great. Last week I got a check engine light. The OD II code is Po216, injector timing circut malfunction. The light reset itself after about 800 miles. ( I called the dealer from the road and they said to finish my trip as long as the light was not blinking. ) On the return trip the light went on again and I took it in for service. The dealer said the injection pump circut is corrupted because Banks tied into it. They reset the light as said "sorry charilie" Chrysler said we can not work on this. The light stayed off for about 300 miles and went on again today. The shop said they will not look at it and said something Banks put in the circuit is causing a momentary fault which turns on the light, but nothing is actually wrong. Does anybody know what is happening and how to fix it or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like Banks needs to be contacted and asked if they will belly up to the bar, so to speak and help you figure this out.

Another definition of P0216 is "Injection Pump Timing Failure".



Do a search and you will find quite a few threads over the past year. For me, and some other's, it meant replacement of the VP44 on my dime since I, like you, have a bombed truck. If you intend on looking to Banks for help I'd read up and get some TDR knowledge before you call them.

There's no use *****footing around on this. You forfeited your Dodge engine warranty when you contracted with Banks to modify your injection system. Now the code showing is one of the most prevalent indications of a failing fuel injection pump (the VP44 pump). You are going to need a new pump as eventually your truck will no longer start.

I can't comment about whether or not Banks will help you at all with this as I've never done business with them.

I can say that I think that the most expensive place to have that pump changed will be at a dealership. They continue to charge very high prices, up to as much as $4000. 00 I've heard, for the pump while it can be had for as little as $850. 00 from aftermarket vendors. I'm fairly sure too that one of the many honest repair vendors which people here can recommend to you will be much more tolerable in their charge to install a new pump than are most dealerships.
