The "check engine" light on my '04 SO stays on while driving. Happened for the first time today while out for a short drive into town.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Only got a little over 12k on it and am up on all the maintenance. Was wondering if there were some common things that set these lights off. You know, some "no brainer" things to check for under the hood. If it doesn't go away, should I take it into the dealer?

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

Step 1 is to pull the codes. There's a method for doing so without an OBDII monitor, but I don't know what it is (something about turning the key on and off 5 times, I think). I'm sure someone will tell you how to do it. Once you give us those codes, we can help diagnose much better. Also, do you have any performance-enhancing items, such as an Edge?

push and hold trip reset button (key off) while holding this button down turn key on but no start. keep holding button, guage cluster will run a diagnostic and display code where miles are displayed.
