Ran an hour down the road today, 7500 lbs in tow, check engine light came on, other gages happy, no leaking boost that I could tell. When accelerating, you could feel a stutter or stumble, 4-5 hits then goes away, seemed a little down on power (EZ on 4). Stopped and checked connections on EZ etc, all seemed good.

When I got where I was going, I pulled the EZ to see if the problem went away. Came home, same dilemma except without the EZ it was really down on power, had a tough time hitting 950 EGT, slow to accelerate, would not pull hills as well, but held the speedlimit+ ok.

due to the sudden on-off nature of the stutter i was thinking electrical signal, but overall down on power made think of the fuel filter (due for a change). I'll change the filter anyway, take it to the dealer for a scan, but thought I'd see if anyone had a similar experience. Only 53k miles, most of it hwy. No lights on except the check engoine light on the left of the dash panel.

I recall some had trouble with the crank position sensor- what does tha act like? I'm thinking right now I've got a stutter limp home mode imbedded in it somehow.

Thanks,

Ken

if the check engine light came on then it set a code, cycle key three times to get them. post codes for future reference.

Well- I guess I'll do a search and see what these mean.....

a while back (a month or so) I goofed the EZ install (I have the early connectors which can accidently fit 180 degrees off)- some of these codes could be from that... .

0633, 0108, 0237, 0341, 0340, 2269, 0652, 0106. Admittedly, I've never checked or erased codes before. Some of these are likely from a minor accident a yr ago which took out the clutchfan wiring, gave me an overtemp, 230ish if I remember right.

I guess I can unhook batteries, let it sit overnight, run it and see what it says for new codes in the AM?

Well, I searched and it lloks like primarily cam sensor, map/boost and water in fuel. I'll change the fuel filter this weekend and bring it to the dealer Monday.

This might help someone else out- was a 53032649-aa map sensor, they tell em its the sensor by the air cleaner though I'm not sure- $65 for the sensor, charged me an hour to diagnose and replace which was likely rounded up from 10 minutes.

I thought it would've been covered under the 7/70 or cummins warranty but now that I've read the fine print I see that's pretty limited on external stuff. Depending on interpretation- it could/might be considered under the federal emissions warranty- will have another talk with the svce mgr on Monday.
