I'v got a 98. 5 24v. Started the truck after work and started fine. Got going down the road and noticed the volt gauge was reading about 8 And the temp gauge hadn't moved. (heater was blowing hot). got home and checked the battery terminals and all was good. Shut truck off for about a minute and started it back up. Fired up without a problem. Both gauges came back to life but now the check engine light came on. Any ideas before I take it to the shop?

Hard to tell, can you get any codes stored? Mine did the same thing almost, but I cycled the key and got 3 codes out of it. I know on your model you would need a scan tool, if I'm not wrong. Do you know someone with Smarty around you? He will be able to read the codes for you. Let us know what you find out.

Wiggle the connector from the wiring harness to the dash pod. Worked for me. There was a TSB for connector problems there on the '99's.

Go to Auto Zone or find a frined with a smarty and read the codes.
