Check Engine light came on for the first time Friday eve. Truck is running fine, and there is no apparent cause. 49k on the odometer. I know, not much to go on, but any ideas? Take to dealer, or forget it? I hate lights on that should'nt be on.

Thanks

Probably a sensor out of tolerance. If the light is not going out, then the sensor will have to be replaced. See if the dealer will run the DRB Scan on it for you. Sensors are easy to change and you can buy the parts from the dealer. Sweet talk the service guy for the scan. It only takes about 5 minutes. A second scan will probably be necessary to clear the fault.

Warning: I had my check engine light come on last week. My Drb tool showed it was the crankshaft sensor. When I got it to the dealer 3 days later It would not start. The sensor had failed completely. Talk about luck

I just corrected a check engine light condition. I had the codes read at a GLTDR event at Genesee Valley Dodge in Flint, MI. The code was 0220 - Both idle validation signals voltage low. I didn't notice any driveability problems so I just ignored it. Well I just changed out the TPS (where that signal comes from) and had quite an increase in the performance of the truck afterwards. I think on your model year truck there is a way to get the codes through the odometer window (doesn't work on the '98 24v trucks) - anyone? We need to know the code it's setting to know where to go from here.

On my 97 Jeep I can turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on and the code will show on the odo. I cant do this on the 2000 QC. I have heard that Mopar dropped this feature after 97.

Mine had a bad throttle postion sensor that caused the "check engine light" to stay on. Apparently there was a problem with the original sensor, since I had to wait while newer version sensors were shipped (on backorder) and haven't had any problems since.

Left home today after making appointment at dealer, "Check Engine" light off. Drove 1hr. W/no problem. Left jobsite, light came on, engine ran poorly, tach quit, 30 sec. later, tach worked again, runs ok. Have appt @ dealer for tom. aft. Thanks for the help. Will do follow up.

Your 2000 should do it... . my 2000 does.

<font color = blue> Mike,

Just curious, but I was wondering if the ignition OFF-ON toggle sequence would force the odo to report a default condition i. e. "No fault found"? as a useful way of verifying whether the function exists or not, instead of waiting for a check engine light symptom to occur. :(

(Before I had my ECM reflashed from California emissions to Federal emissions, the DTT upgrades caused a known/spurious (false) "Check engine light" on the dash and it would have been useful to validate the error code as inconsequential... . On a related point, does anyone know if the Cummins QuickCheck for the Palm PDA is finally yet available and what it's functionality will be like?

Cheers

Just brought my truck in today for check engine light. Turned out to be a faulty sensor on the starter. It seems to always be a problem with the sensor and not what it's protecting.

Just to clarify here, some of the 24V engines use a crank position indicator and the I believe in 2001 they changed to the Cam position indicator. Sorry for the confusion. It depends on the year truck.
