Check engine light

I wanted to clean my IAT sensor so I disconneced the plug from it and attempted to take the sensor out. I didn't have the right size socket, so I went to go and get one and forgot to plug the sensor back in. I noticed the "check engine" light ona nd realized what I forgot to do. I shut down, plugged it back in, and started it back up and the light was still on. I shut down again, waited a few minutes, and started back up to see that it is still on. Has anyone had a problem with this before? Should I worry about driving with it on even though I know that everything is ok and all my guages read normal?
