check engine light

Hey guys we are having a few problems w/ our "other" '92. The check engine light keeps coming on. It was associated w/ a drawdown on the voltage, so I thought bad sensor and disconnected the intake grids. Now the voltage is fine, but still get the check engine light.

Also, boost normally can peg out at about 20-21. Now its around 10-11, so a new air filter and fuel filter go in tomorrow, but what's up w/ the check engine light?

This is some kind of combo, intake grids coming on, low boost, and a check engine light.



Any suggestions?



You guys helped a bunch last time, hopefully you can this time as well.

Have you checked for codes? Turn the ignition key on and off 3 times qiuckly and read the sequece of flashes. 1 flash- quick pause- 2 flash = 12 and so on 55 = end of codes

According to http://www.minimopar.net/fault/index.html#11-17 12 means you disconnected the battery recently and 55 means no more codes.

These codes don't really tell us much then. Has anybody had this problem before? Check engine light, decrease in perf. , and the grid heaters cycling all at the same time. It has me stumped. Just as I was typing we tried to get some more codes and guess what; it gave them to us.

Anybody ever had a 41 set? The website CrewCab listed says its a alternator field control circuit open or shorted. How about a simple fix? I'm ready to dive into it, but if anybody has some info for the code I would really appreciate it. It would save alot of time.

Is your charging system working ok? The site suggested checking wiring and connections. The PCM acts as a voltage regulator on these trucks.

We are pulling all acc and checking more connections in the AM. Charging system seems to be working correctly. Like I said voltage would pull real low like intake heaters were on, so I disconnected them. Voltage seems fine now. But can't figure out this check engine light.

I went through this same thing a few months ago. Same code. One of the fields in the alternator was not putting out the proper voltage. I took the quick route and just replaced the alternator.



I know there ar some members on the forum who have fixed these things. Maybe they will chime in.

Maybe you have a bad cell on the battery? Taking surface charge only.
