Yesterday out of no where, the Check Engine light came on and is still on. I also saw the tack go to zero while at highway speed for a few seconds, then returned to normal. Everything continues to run well and all indications remain normal. I have not made any additional performance enhancements or done any maintenance for some time. Do only emissions related items trip the MIL or are there other things also? What is "limp-in" and items associated with such failures? Any ideas of what to look for? See signature for truck information. 105,000+ miles.

mega , there are a number of things that will trip the light , cycle you key on and off 3 times , leave it on the thrid time and watch your digital odometer , it will spit out any and all codes , i'll bet that the tach dropping to zero is what trip it .

Check light

MEGA - The light will extinquish after x number of restarts without seeing a problem. Don't remember what number x equals so that doesn't help you much but I can say that the code should still be there and you can get it using directions provided by MM.

Mega,

The EXACT thing happened to me today also on my way home from work. I am going to try the other things first that the others had said before I call the dealer. Please keep us posted!

guys the code will still be there till its reset by snap-on scanner or drb tool ... .

with the key off , turn the truck to the on position , when you here the chime and see the dash flash on turn it of fast ... do this a total of 3 times , on the third time leave it on . look at the odometer , it will spit out the codes , if there are not codes all you will see is "DONE"
