It did it again this morning after I went about 3 miles down road. So far this makes 6 times it has flashed in 7300+miles. You would think them high tech boys would figure out whats causing it.

The check gauges light came on in my new truck 4 or 5 times in about the first 600 miles. Everything appeared to be OK when checked the oil pressure, temperature, and voltmeter. Took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong, no codes or anything. Hasn't done it in the last 600 miles. As much as this appears to be happening, bet we see a bulletin eventually. Much as we pay for these things, it is very unsettling to see such a warning on a new engine.

I responded to a previous post on this issue and since then my truck has not given me the "light". However the other day I was driving on the freeway and I was going about 80mph and I see a different red light lit on the dash. This light was opposite the odometer reset button. well, I checked all gauges and there were no problems that I could see so I drove to the next exit and pulled into the first lot I saw and shut her down. Into the glove box I go for the owners manuel to see what this mystery light is and, its the alarm system status light. The manuel says it blinks and stuff when the alarm is armed. Well thats great I guess, except for the fact that I do not have the alarm system option in my truck I only have keyless entry. So I restarted the beast and the light was no longer lit but I am starting to think these trucks have electrical gremlins. Oh yeah don't rinse off your engine's either I did that and now my horn sounds like a dying cow, I mean Ram. They must have gotten wet. On a positive note these trucks plow snow like it was there sole purpose in life to move the white stuff.

I got it to the dealer yesterday for the check gages light. They put there puter on it but it did not set any codes. So they don't know. At least if something happens they have a record of it being brought in for this. It had the recall on the loose nut on the fan too. But it was tight. About 8600 miles now.

Mine has done it less and less as the miles rack up. Could be those gremlins are finally getting board or maybe their working overtime at the 6. 0 ford plant! :D

I'll bet you guys are just seeing the gleam in your eyes that's reflecting off of something!! Like when you got your first uh... ... ... ..... well... ... ... ... ... . you know what I mean.

Have your dealer put a Co-Piolit on your truck. It's a box that plugs into the OBD-II connector and records info from the ECM. It has a button that you push when the problem happens and it saves the info so the techs can look at what is going on when the problem happens. If it is turning on a check gauges light this box should be able to record what is causing it diagnosing the cause of the problem might be hard but at least they will know what is causing the light to come on.

Mine comes on once or twice (each way) every time I pull my trailer in the mountains. Seems like it does it while shifting into a lower gear (to slow down a bit) than it does while going uphill at high RPMs. Probably an emissions-related thing, or a glitch in the programming.

Prairie Dog I agree with you as I get more miles on it it doesn't do it as much and Kaffine Krazed I think your idea of the Co-Pilot is good. But I would have to be holding the button in my hand to push it when it came on. It's only on a second if that long now. When it first started it might of stayed on a little longer maybe 2 seconds:confused: Sooner or later our great almighty dodge engineers will come up with something:--)

You guys are not alone. I drove the truck 650 miles today on the highway and saw the light come on three or four times. The longest it stayed on was about 2 seconds. The guages all read normal... CJ

From my understanding the Co-Piolit will record for some time before you push the button and some time after the button is pushed to make sure it records what caused the problem will show up on the readings.

Mine has come on for a split second about four times now. Nothing unusual going on so I am not too concerned. I believe the Co-pilot records about 30 to 45 seconds. It puts a marker where you pushed the button. It is just recording a continuous loop of information from the PCM or ECM. You have plenty of time to push the button and get the data. The problem is with the template the dealer loads. He has to load the correct one (engine, transmission, abs, etc) for the problem. Who knows what the source is.

Unless its changed the co-pilot records 3seconds before to 3 seconds after and a lot of times techs look at it and had no clue. Then its downloaded to D. C. and in a matter of hours to a day or so they will get a call from D. C, to go over data. Saw lots of this on gassers when new designs came out etc. Most of time found system too senistive etc. and then a tsb would appear and reprograming would take place. Ran into this with G. m. also. They will look at claims and complaints and it comes to their attention. The only times this can be a long drawn out problem is if reprograming alters any emmison and or fuel mileage issue and The FEDS have to give their seal of approval. This can take months!

New info check gages light

Just talked to Philip(La Grange Dodge) asking question on Jeep Liberty we just bought(3. 7L does not have a timming belt has timming chain:D )and he said he had some info on check gages light flashing on and then off. He said he was advised to unplug the ECM and then replug it. Could be loose connection. They had already done one 03 and were to do another one this afternoon. I will take mine to them next Wed. when I am off work and see if this corrects the problem. So far its done it 6 times(I think). We will see if this corrects the problem. Its a start.

Happened to me about 1/2 dozen times in the first few thousand miles (up to about 3000), but hasn't happened since (9800 on it now). It tended to happen at idle so I suspected the oil pressure gauge was fluctuating below minimum pressure (barely). Hmmm..... then I changed the oil at 2880 miles and put in a stratopore filter from Cummins; Coincidence?
