Had an interesting adventure this evening.

Yanno, the "check gages" light that hits you from time to time? Mine came on and stayed there!!! Looked down and had NO charge on the ampmeter, got out and checked all connections at the local gas station.

Shut it off and refired, no lite and good gage reading, 30 thousand and change ... ... . kinda freaked me out though!

check gauges

My truck was one week old when the gauge read 8 volts,,,it wouldn't move until the engine was shutdown. Everytime I restarted, the gauge would go to 14v... and then after a few seconds, would dive back to 8v. After a few days of recharging the batteries, I had time to take the truck back to Dodge... . it turns out that thr wiring harness to the right side battery had been routed incorrectly at the factory. got pinched by the alternator bracket, and had worn through the cable. this also fried tha alternator too. The dealer had the truck for 4 days waiting for the new harness. When everything came in, the alternator, the harness, and tthe batteries were all replaced. Everything has worked perfectly since then. Just a possible reason for the discharging... check the back of the alternator.

I have seen mine coming on in the corner of my eye, haven't caught what is causing it yet.

Is this voltage regulator thing common?

I'll check that MarStock56, they did replace the bracket several months ago.

Hey rbattelle, did you see that we are in print?

Ryan,

We were quoted in this last TDR issue. It is at the shop so I can't tell you the page number, but the article referenced running wires throught the firewall.

Sorry, guys, this should prolly be a PM.

Jeff-

Didn't you have the alternator bracket replaced under the TSB? Maybe they garfed up the alternator during the replacement!
