Greetings all. My 2006 is in the dealer at the moment. It's a 3500 quad cab, 6 speed and just turned 5K miles. Started this morning and the "Check Gauges" light (according to the manual - the engine icon light) never went off. Oil pressure, etc. seemed fine and normal, so I drove it straight to the dealer. After checking out the site here I noticed a few posts relating this to the use of the auxilliary input port on the radio. Oddly enough, my wife JUST started using this feature the other day. She plugged her Ipod into the aux port using a standard Belkin cable she picked up at a home electronics store. The light stayed on the entire drive to the dealer.

Is this a known, common problem, and what's the cure?

The shop had never heard of it. I LOVE my Sirius radio, but I HATE the head unit. The one I have doesn't display any of the additional data available through the radio. If this is a head unit issue, hopefully I can change it out to a good aftermarket unit (Alpine baby!). One other thing I noticed as the truck was idling was that the gauge lighting was changing from bright to dim rather oddly. I'll post a follow up as soon as I hear back from the dealer. Curious to hear from others that have had similar problems.

Thanks,

Todd K.

WOW- I have read that 3G's , especially '06's are very sensitive to electrical changes, but you are using the aux input for what it was designed for.

We have had Ipods, add-on XM radios, my son's PSP (it can store MP3's), even a laptop plugged into it without any problems.

BTW, the head unit is pretty bad, especially with FM sensitivity- an important feature out where we live.

Update

OK,

Word from the dealer is that there was a code for "fuel pressure at key on". I asked if it was abnormally high or low, but the service rep said the code didn't specify. The "key on" part makes me suspicious, as the Ipod was plugged in at key on. I figure I'll give it a few days to make sure it doesn't kick a code again, then try the Ipod adapter again. I'm using it as specified. The technician went through the entire fuel system, top to bottom, and said everything was perfect - fuel pressure, etc. all exactly to spec.

I've been using an ipod for years with no issues.

The dimmimg of the panel as ou warm up is probably the grid heaters cycling on and off. All electric accessories will be affected by the power surge from the grid heaters.
