I'm posting this for a friend with a 98 24v:

When the truck is first started all the guage lights go on (as normal :D ) but the "check guages" light remains lite for approximately 5-6 seconds until the oil pressure guage suddenly pops up. The oil pressure guage shows no action prior to this. The local stealer service manager says that is not right however their mechanic says he thinks it is. Their having quite an internal disscussion. Anyone know?

I don't believe my 99 does this.

First i would check the oil pressure sending unit, but as i recall on my 2001 i had my ECM reflashed to enable winter idle and one of the updates to the ecm was to correct oil pressure gauge's going dead. I looked for the TSB but cannot find it:eek: .

My 99 works the same way. Once oil pressure rises the check gauge light goes off. I would think this is normal for the check gauge light to stay lite untill oil pressure is above a certain PSI. I have not had a problem with oil pressure gauge reading incorrectly when the engine is running.
