I've recently had funny quirks after driving for about 1/2 hr, the alternator gauge drops from @15V on gauge (inaccurate I know) to about 10V, then i see the CHECK GAUGES idiot light and the alt gauge is dead.

I'm running a bit below N. O. T. , but warm enough to build heat. PCM 1682 ECM 1693 codes show.

The weird part of this is that I can shut down, immediately restart and the light / gauge thing goes away and we're back to where I started. I already have the alternator but don't want to throw parts at it if i don't need to.

Any suggestions?

Update

Thanks for all the help guys

As it turned out the relay assembly for the intake heater grid was the problem. One or both the relays didn't de-energize, I caught it as the intake horn was beginning to REALLY heat up after I shut down. I managed to pull the battery grounds in time but what a pain.

For anybody who gives a crap the part number for this is Mopar# 56026842, which was in a Mopar box from the dealer. Kit is both relays mounted in the bracket that bolts to the inner fender.
