Oh no problem. Didn't mean anyone specifically. I apologize. I'm a big boy and when you put yourself out there for all to see, you've got to be able to take some criticism. I welcome the negative also but I must admit, you guys have been very kind.

I am on my third RAM (93, 2001.5 and the 2015) and had two B150's in the boat for 19 years. I like to be able to hold the filter from the bottom full of oil and reach down, lift it up onto the fitting and spin it on. The wheel well hole has no attraction to me. So I will stay on the top. SNOKING

So, I'm not going to lie here... I have a couple sincere questions. Note that I've not yet changed the oil in my new to me 2011 4x4 (which replaced my 03 2WD)
1. I've never seen anyone crank a filter on so tight. A good and snug hand tight is it. Am I missing something on the 6.7?
2. I've not yet looked at the access to get to the filter. I figured I'd put the truck on the lift at the shop and do it like nearly every other truck... out and back in from below.
What am I missing here? Again, sincere questions as I learn more and more about the 6.7 (one of my favorites, so far, is the high idle using cruise control and exhaust brake )

It looks like I was torquing it down with that cheater but no, I didn't over tighten it. But I can get 3/4 of a turn by hand where the filter is located so I use the wrench.

Ok just did my first change, thru the fender , genos tool , same tools used as too tall.
I see why too tall added the plate to the filter socket. Now I need another oil cap wrench : (
still gotta find and grease that joint

Jack, yes that's exactly why I built the plate with the socket. I thought I'd died an went to heaven using it. I'm a little surprised more folks didn't have have the same issue getting the genos tight. With my tool, It's like having another hand right under the filter in that hole.

Thank you Too Tall, my first oil change today. Went through the fender, with the genos garage tool, no problem at all. Key was placing the rags below the oil filter, to lower the oil filter down onto. No spills at all, the tool worked great taking out the old filter, and putting the new one pre-filled in.

I have a 2012 and part of the reason for purchasing was the ease of changing the oil and filter on our Cummins. Real easy to access from below. I keep a oil filter strap (socket) wrench on hand as I find the monkeys at the dealership like to screw the filters on good and tight. Also installed one of those finger touch oil drain valves, what a easy way to sample and drain the oil.

love that on this rig I can just crawl underneath and do an oil change real quick. I was thinking after I purchased the 2012 that it would have been good to have newer frame for the increased capacity, but I really have never been disappointed in what I have.

Yeah, noticed that myself. I've seen more that a few Youtuber's demonstrating how to change the oil and they almost always edit that part out. You see the filter go in the hole and next scene shows an arm coming out with the words, "done !".

It seems a lot of videos are click bait. Wonder how much this guy makes off Youtube ?
