Some truck advice needed

Do these trucks have on board air? I noticed the button marked "tire light load-inflation" right on the dash... .

They sure have turned into a work of art, makes me feel like Im riding around on a dinosaur:-laf

No onboard air. with the federally mandated tire pressure monitoring system, they allow 2 settings for air pressure low is for an empty truck and normal for a loaded truck,For example it may be 45psi front and rear on light and jump to 55-70 normal. These numbers vary by 2 and 4wheel drive and cab configurations.

The more interesting changes are in the engine itself, such as the coated pistons and even stronger block girdles than used in the past

That's ashamed. It would make sense to have it. My wife's 2004 buick rainier has rear leveling bags and onboard air.

Call me a dinosaur, but all I see on these new ones is potential for problems with all of the sophisticated electronics. My old '99 ST is getting some body work and a new coat of paint on the cab this summer, plus a brand spanking new flatbed. I really like being in control of when the interior lights go on and off, etc. New ones sure are pretty to look at, but I'll pass.

My wife's '06 Honda Ody has many of these same features including rear DVD movie/entertainment system and dual air conditioning with automatic controlled temperature. We've never used the rear DVD system and don't know it it works. (Our weenie dog rides in her car seat on the second row seats and hasn't asked to watch a movie... yet:-laf) The other electronic gizmos are handy and we like and use them. So far after nearly 7 years, we've not had one probelm.

Went and looked at a '13 today. . love the computer in the middle with SD cards, 115 volt plug in, all that stuff. . Didn't know that the mirrors tilted down such. . neat. .

What I am wanting to know about the Urea injection, is that a system that will help the DPF be less loaded up when doing more city driving? I have an 09 and at 39K miles, the DPF Plugged up. . now they replaced a couple sensors by it as well, might have been the primary cause. . but would a Urea injected Exhaust have less problems than the regular DPF Style? if so, I'd consider getting it.

Gotta LOVE all the neat, new bells and whistles - but the reality of how well complicated electronics usually holds up with stuff sitting still in my HOUSE, sorta worries me about something knocking around for thousands of miles on bad roads... ;)

Eric,I hope so. The 02 sensors are gone- they have been number 1 in the issues I have seen. The def should reduce the amount of egr required. Lets see what happens after they have been on the road awhile

So can you give us a list of what's changed in the motor and why the changes might have been made? BTW, if the O2 sensors are gone, what are they using in it's place?

Thanks!!

Can you explain to a simple mind like me how the pressures in the tires change? This may be old news for some but you gotta consider what I drive, this might as well be a space ship for me :D

The tire pressure itself doesn't change unless the owner does it.

The switch allows for lower tire pressure (pavement princess mode) to be accepted by the trucks computer and not freak out the TPMS system. If that feature wasn't there you would have to leave the tires at the max pressure at all times or be reminded every 5 seconds by warning lights on the dash (EVIC) that you have a low tire(s) when you aired them down when running empty.

That is only a feature on the 3/4 tons AFAIK.

A definite sanity saver... .

2013 engine improvements

A quick update on some new features

New crank damper

New camshaft with revise intake lobe profiles

New injectors and no need to enter correction codes

Smaller diameter water pump pulley to increase flow rate

revised pistons new bowl design and smaller diameter skirts that have been graphite coated in pick-ups

both c/c and p/up pistons get upper ring gap change for improved sealing

New cooling nozzles

New bedplate that reduces nvh plus acts as windage tray

new flexplates for the aisin equipped trucks

new dual branch exhuast manifold

Dual inlet system for intake air

Turbo actuater has higher torque and will be flash reprgramable and replaceable

Up to 75 second time for grid heaters

4micron frame mounted fuel filter/water separator with wif sensor

3micron engine mounted filter/water separator with hydrophobic screen to aid water stripping

engine filter must be installed or will not start or run

Fuel filter change warning will be added to evic

pick-ups rated to operate up to 20% bio

C/C must be ordered be ordered with sales code xxj to run 20% bio

Might have missed something but sounds awesome for next year.
