I am looking for a picture of one of these with a Ram body it has got to look BaddAss, I saw this one in a plazza in Ohio on way out to CA it is SWEET looks like a Big Rig frame and a lot of work
One was a Chevy made using the mid-to-late '70's body style. It was a 2-door dually body on what looked like a class 4 or 5 frame. The frame was shortened to make the axles line up with the wheel wells and the body was lowered onto the frame. It looked a lot like a regular pickup except the wheels and running gear looked REALLY beefy.
The other was a Ford F-650 or 750 owned by the railroad. It had a crew cab with a regular F-350 bed behind it. Since the cab-to-axle was about 2 feet longer on the frame than the bed could cover, they had made a custom tool box that fit between the cab and front of the bed. It looked kind of cool but kind of cludgey.
This Chevy is definitely the cleanest (and beefiest) execution of this idea.
I wonder how in the heck you could register something like this?
And how much $ does it take to fill those tanks?
And of course I wonder what he's got under the hood - a 6. 5L DD - NOT!
Interesting to look at, but what do you do with this thing. Too tall to tow anything, too big to get up in the back country with. Interesting for show. What does the insurance bill look like and what does it have under the hood??? Somebody has got a big ol pocket full of money for this toy.
I imagine its like a Kodiak Or Top Kick 4x4. Probably has that Cat V-8 in it. The bed is definatly not functional. I bet its 6ft to the tailgate lol.
I think the International And Freightliner Low Profile 4 door trucks are cool with a Flatbed. And The 2002 International trucks are NICE. I could definatly handle an 02 Crew Cab 4x4 Low profile International truck with a short flat bed as a daily driver. And I do believe the 8. 3 is an Option . I drive a 4700 INT at work everyday. A shorter one with more power and more doors would be cool for me
Scott, I saw a Ford like that today in Martinez. Just about 35 clicks east of you. They use it to pull big yachts around. It was lifted, crew cab, blah blah blah. Dodge does have a truck in this class but they are not previlent in the US. They have been sited in Mexico though.
The truck I spotted today was even white like the one in your pic. Very impressive. The driver was no dummy. The truck didn't have a PSD powerplant. That's right, he got the upgrade I-6 power!!!
Saw one in a rest stop north Florida. It was a Kodiak regular cab. The guy had made it all to scale. Just looked like a giant @#$! chevy pick up. The cab on the Kodiaks and Top Kicks are the same size as a regular chev p/u. The fenders hoods and grills are quite different FWIW. I too would like to see a Ram set up uh maybe not RAMS already look BADD A@#$!
TNT, saw it over in Manchester at the Service Merchandise. His wife and kids were sitting in it while he was getting something at the store. Talk about a Grocery getter
I feel genuinely sorry for the guy that has to drive that. I drive big trucks for a living and they suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suspension? Oops, we forgot that, sorry. Oh, you go deaf when you drive it? Sorry, guess we should have made our engineers have high school doplomas before we hired them. Oh it handles like a dump truck, well it is one. I look at that thing and get nausiated at the idea that you all like it, I guess it is a testosterone thing. I like a truck that handles well, rides smooth, is quiet (actually be able to hear the radio on the freeway), and is as far from a medium duty POS as possable.
