Your almost right, they made two types of heads. The front wheel drive Olds got the aluminum heads. The rear wheel drivers got the cast iron. Judging from the pictures on the auction, the car is FWD.



Alldata shows a TSB for removal of aluminum head on a 83 4. 3 diesel.

Drove one once

In 1984 the car I drove in Driver's Ed was an '84 Olds Ciera with that engine. It was rather noisy and quite gutless but it actually sounded pretty good. I remember it had to go to the shop on more than one occasion though. I have seen a few of these diesels but it's been a couple years now since the last one.
