I'll try inserting one of the pictures, I've never attached a picture before so forgive me if it does not work.

Hmmm. Looks like a fuel or oil leak that turned into a blow torch. What's the official story? Please tell those of us who can't log on to the forum.

guys response from DP.com

This is what he says, doesn't look like he knows yet. Other guys posting say it looks electrical or possibly powersteering fluid?

"Last night my 2001 3500 Duramax caught on fire in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming.

I wasn't there unfortunately so don't have all the details.

Driver says the engine died and he pulled over and popped the hood and poof the engine went up in flames. They put it out with a fire extinguisher.

Having it hauled back to town to get an idea of the damage now.

Sad Day for me.

Anyone heard of this type of thing happening before?

Thanx,"

By the looks of the smoke and the blistered paint on the hood, it was burning rather hot before the driver popped the hood or he slammed the hood shut to try to kill the flames.
