Competition Banks Sidewinder - World's Fastest Pickup Truck

The Bandag Bullet set the Guinness world record as the world’s fastest truck over a standing quarter mile, at Calder Park International Raceway on Sunday October 18, 1987.

Driven by Frank Gaffiero, the record time of 14 seconds was the best time clocked over a set of three runs.

Uhhh I don't think so.

Fastest semi maybee?

:Edit: Cant find fastest standing 1/4 mile holder

:edit#2:

AHA ... . 1987 is the key

:D :D   :D :D That guy must be related to Piers!

I absolutely love the way that truck idles:cool: NICE TRUCK!Oo.

Any body able to save those vids to disk? I tried but couldn't get it to work?

Man that truck has been around along time and its exploits are well known and seen by many. They used to do a recap throw at bigger shows around where he would send a set of Bandag caps flying off the casings at dyno shows and drag races.

The trio of CFI racers are no slouches either. They have one built for each different type of competition, drag, land speed and Pike's Peak.

I'd say Piers has learned his burnout technology from Bandag as they both look simular when they do it don't they... ... . Andy

yes the key was 1987... ..... seen a little of the video and they said that it is now in the 12's and 190 something kph. write up said 14's and 160 some kph. only problems is I have no idea when the video was made, it might be a lot faster than the 12's now.

Yeah, I glanced at it before I read your post and thought, "Man, did I put RETARD instead of RETREAD?" Bad optical trick.

smith transport out of roaring springs, PA has two trucks they drag race. 379 peterbuilt with a newer detriot and a cabover kw with a 12 cylinder quad turbo detriot. the pete is there tow truck for the kw and it will run over 100 mph in the 1/4 with no problem. they run super singles on the back of that.

R. ebel: I think I may have found a way for you to 'save' those videos...

Provided you are on a PC running Internet Explorer - the following instructions should work.

1) Click on the link - grab a beer while it downloads (for the dialup users... . ).

2) Grab another beer to watch the video.

3) Now that the video is 'cached' on your computer you can go fetch it!!

4) Go to your "Temporary Internet Files" directory - and the video file will be in there. One you locate it - copy it and paste it into a 'safe place'.

To get to the "Temporary Internet Files" directory you can do this:

"Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" - "Internet Options"

Screen shots to follow..... hang tight.

Matt

This is the "Internet Properties - Settings" dialog - click on 'View Files" - that will give you the "Temporary Internet Files" directory... . where you will find the cached video file... ... and lots of other stuff you'll probably want to delete. :D

Okay - I just figured out that all those instructions don't mean a darn thing for the Bandag Bandit videos.

The links are 'video streams' - which don't download into the "Temporary Internet Files" directory after you view them... .

However - these instructions will work for non-streaming video files... .

Sorry for getting your hopes up.....

In April of 2001, on the second of our four annual trips to the Big Rig Nationals at Maryland, we were lucky enough to witness Smith Transport's cabover actually make an 11 second pass ! To my knowledge, that's the only time they did get into the elevens... I'd like to see them get another one.....
