Yep, I seen that but thanks for posting it again.

I did just drop my pan @ 15K to install a temp sensor and raised an eyebrow at the brass in the filter and metal on the magnet.

Not piles of it but noticeable and odd to me at only 15K.

I drive light footed but that may change as TDR'ers pointed out that allows for less trans throttle lever movement and thus lower line pressures.

Ive said this before and ill say it again. If these trannys do start failing left and right, We will get a class action lawsuit and make chysler fix it for no cost...

RIght?

Get to fileing Kid,

These trannys have failed since new and the 47RE is the same. It easy to smoke a stock transmission. Put on an EZ and drive it like you stole it... ... Better get to that lawsuit... !

Yo Hoot,

Well, the only thing I can tell you is that these trucks equipped with the 48RE transmission have had failures as early as 15,000 miles. Seems DC didn't engineer the thrust washers to the right specs and they fail prematurely. Even on a stock vehicle you are taking a risk. There are several transmission companies out there that can upgrade your transmission to help you from having failures. I took my 01 truck with a 47RE and had it upgraded at 12,000 miles. I figured that with the weight I hauled that a "better safe than sorry" approach was better. DTT did my upgrade and the truck now has almost 100 K on it and is running strong with 450 HP. After you do the transmission I would put on a turbo of your choice and an EZ with stage 2 injectors (80 hp) and never worry again. With the 5 inch exhaust you have and a bigger turbo you will be able to haul anything at any speed and never worry about EGT's. Plus having an upgraded transmission, you'll finally put the HP to the rear wheels.....

The transmission s the main reason I extended my warantee. It sure would suck to have it go out on a road trip though. I find myself torn between trying to wear it out quickly and trying to baby it.

Are there any affordable upgrades to prevent failure?

Does it make sense to change the fluid more often?

I read a thread about using Mercon/ Dextron for a tighter shift. Will this be harder on it or help it?

What is the BEST oil to use and does flushing it help or hurt?

THanks for input, Dave

In all the research I have done since buying the truck I have found that 3 basic changes makes it good to go...

1) Pull the trans and change the TQ

2) while the trans is out do the thrust washer update

3) at the same time change the VB

I really should bite the bullet and do it. Waiting out the 70K powertrain warranty might mean a complete rebuild on my money @ 75K

If you tow change fluid every 15K, 30K may be ok if its always empty.

Using Dexron will void your warranty, IMO ATF+4 is the only fluid to use and is full synthetic.

A flush machine will get more of the old fluid out than just dropping the pan so- yes I feel that is better but not if you neglect changing the filter thats in the pan.

If you did a flush every 15K and a flush & filter every 30K that would be good service IMO.
