Hey Steve, Tell me about your front receiver...

My brother, who is an insurance appraiser, sent me these photos of a claim he just recently investigated. This WAS a 96 F350 PSD dually. The 5th wheel was ONE day old.

The rig jackknifed on the ice and slide into the concrete barrier in the median. The truck uncoupled from the 5th wheel and rolled under it. In the process, the fuel cell ruptured causing one of the hottest fires he has ever seen.

Be careful out there!

Steve

BTW, neither of the two passengers was hurt!

I zoomed in on the hitch area and it appears that the hitch is STILL attached to the 5th wheel. Looks like it ripped the entire hitch off of the truck. #ad

Hey zman... . just wondering... do U know where the wreck was at? reason I ask is that Im originally from around the Janesville WI area... (see the sign in the pic) but cant remember a Seymour in the area... (only Seymour I know of in WI is by Green Bay)

Well... just from looking at the pictures... the hitch is still attached to the 5ver... . see how it forms an A shape? Also wondering if that had been a properly installed hitch... . if it was... ouch ouch ouch... shows just how much force things can have sometimes.....

WOW!!!

EMD, I was thinking the same thing. If that was a recent picture, its not Janesville, WI, not enough snow on the ground in them pics.

I think the pics are from Indiana. Seymore is just south of Indy.

edit: Sorry, Seymour.

That is just north of exit 55 on I-65S based on the trailer still pointing in the direction of travel. That looks like it smarted. Also the truck bed is ontop of a concrete barrer left over from road construction in the summer. The bed looks like it is 6" tall.

... and this was part of a thread started by Briar Hopper about which gooseball to get. My response to him was to get the highest shear-strength and highest weight rating available, because should the hitch fail as being the 'weakest link in the chain', you'd be having a real bad day! These photos prove the point! Any word on the occupants?

The pictures are from southern Indiana. I think the rig was heading southbound on I-65 north of Seymour. The other town listed on the sign is Jonesville.
