First off I’ll admit I haven’t done a lot of digging into this problem yet. 2015 2500 long box truck if it matters. Without a trailer connected every time I step on the brake pedal I get a ding and check trailer brake wiring message. With a trailer connected everything operates as normal except for the stupid camera comes on in reverse. I got under the truck and did a quick look at the connections for the trailer plug and saw no problems. I haven’t unplugged or cut apart the splice for the in box plug yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

This is most certainly a water/ground intrusion symptom. Likely underneath the truck on the harness where the frame is.

I would start by tracing the wiring and inspecting all connections all the way up to the front of the truck.

If I were to diagnose it I would get my 7 pin trailer inspector, and find out which pin or pins is causing the issue. It sounds from it, it could either be trailer lights or trailer brakes. The system does a check for sense. If you are getting pull down from say the trailer brake wiring, but not the trailer brake lamps, that will activate a warning per the logic.

Sounds like a tracking issue in the connector itself. If you live in an area that deals with salt or brine on the roads, you need to clean the contacts. You'll get dust and dirt behind the door on the connector, add in the winter components, you'll get a warning "ding" and or light for the trailer brakes. I clean mine at least twice a year, after winter is done, and in the fall. And of course any time i notice dirt in connector or I get a message.

Do you have the in bed trailer connection? If you do, unplug the harness at the Y behind the bumper from the main harness, disconnecting both trailer outlets. Go for a test drive, did it quit? If so, replace the Y harness to both outlets. I have had 2 go bad on me.

I would check the plug on the bumper for corrosion.

Isn’t the camera supposed to come on in reverse?

I thought it didn’t come on when the trailer was connected. I honestly wish I could just shut it off completely. I have managed to back up for 40 years without one by simply using the mirrors. Plus it’s blinding in the dark when trying to use the mirrors. Anyway I found the problem. One of the splices in the split for the in bed plug was green and rotten. Just another reason to love New York State

It’s supposed to come on in reverse, which can be handy when backing up and making tight turns.

The ability to disable and/or dim the screen would be very beneficial.

I live in Upstate NY. Isn't amazing how salt gets in these connectors?

My last vehicle, the pins on the connectors were falling off like dried pine needles off a branch.

When backing the trailer in the dark I have to place a towel over the radio because it is so bright I can't see the mirrors. I wish there was a way to switch it off.

I wonder if there is a BCM setting we could adjust with AlfaOBD or JScan.

Got a haircut the other day. Leaving the barber shop on my second 90 degree turn I heard a ding and looked down and it read measuring the length for my trailer for blind spot detection. It cleared after a few blocks.

That's one thing I hated about my '18 is that you couldn't shut the radio off. My 2023 lets you turn it off!

It is amazing. I worked as a mechanic for a fleet of milk trucks for 10 or so years. It seems like all I did in the winter was fix lights. I have tried every method and product available and the salt and brine and whatever other chemicals they dump on the roads would still get into it

I spray some Fluid Film in the trailer socket just before winter to help with the salt issues. Another thing you could do, is take a trailer plug and keep in the socket to help keep it clean when not towing. Just put some type of plug in the wire clamp to prevent intrusion into the plug.

my radio turns off, but I sometimes I turn the headlites to park lites only and dim the dash lights down to zero, just so I can see.
if I turn the exterior lights off completely the dash gages are lit up like a Xmas tree..

At night I typically run my trucks with the screen turned off and the dimmer way down on the cluster. Has saved me from hitting deer, pedestrians, and road debris from the blinding lights. My eyes are super sensitive and I need all the night vision I can get.

Most of the time, I don't even run with the radio turned on. Mostly to enjoy the diesel clatter. Can't get enough of it.
