Check your spare tire

I was crawling around under the back of the truck this morning to study how to lower the rear end by moving the spring spacers. I reached up and grabbed the spare and it swung all over the place. I got about 5 cranks on the winch before it snugged back up where it belongs. Maybe that explains some of the bumping and knocking I have been hearing lately.

I had the same thing happen last year! It is also a good idea to lower the spare tire once in awhile too. I would hate to get a flat tire and find out that everything is seized up..... I happened to me with my Ford F-250. I never lowered the tire until I got a flat (3 years after I bought the truck)..... And I was screwed! Had to call for a tow truck. Stupid ME!

I always take mine down to install the PML covers on my trucks and just throw them in the back of the bed so that way if I am ever towing I don't have to sneak under there etc on the side of the road...

Order a Master 6' cable lock from Amazon.com. It's about $20. 00 shipped. Thread it up through the bed crossmember and through the wheel spokes. Cinch it up,lock it and put a piece of electrical tape over the key slot. You're secure. P. S. Don't lose the key. The guys with 35's really need this piece of mind. I think they're carrying 130# under there.

I rotate my spare in with the other tires, so I get a good look at the current spare tire every 3-4000 miles. I have to buy 5 tires at a time this way, but I don't have one just dry-rotting under the truck. And I get an extra 20 percent mileage before I have to buy tires.

i got a 315/70/17 up in their. it has come loose 3 times on me. so i got a 6000lb ratchet strap across it and for the last 10,000 miles it is still in their solid with no movement. might wanna try that if it keeps loosening on you. it takes all the stress off the cable.

Needless to mention, while checking the tightness of the spare, remember to check the pressure also.

Nothing is more aggrevating than to have a flat and the spare be flat too. #@$%!
