Better yet, call the environmental people in your state and report that "you smell and see diesel fuel leaking from his vehicle".

Any of you guys ever thought about running Jet fuel. I have used it a time or two when i was in a jam. I have recently found a additive to improve the lubrication for running it in a diesel fuel system. Best part is that it is always clear and almost always less than 1. 00 per gallon. I have seen it for as low as 60 cents.

The closest jet fuel to me is Lakehurst NAWC, or McGuire AFB. I dont think they's sell me any. :-laf

They should do away with the red die crap. It sounds like its to much of a headache to monitor.

If it were up to me one color fuel. You either charge tax. Or no charge tax.

Might as well do away with the red die anyway. Sooner or later the epa will say its too dirty.

It is just another way for our country to say "We don't trust you". It is a real pain to monitor and a pain to try to keep clean. It takes forever to try to clean off of cloths and skin. Just call me "red hand"... ... . :D

Reading this and other threads and seeing how many individuals are willing to evade road taxes by running red diesel, I'd say the mistrust is well founded. :rolleyes:

The reason they started this is because in the 80's the arabs (most of the independent stations around here are owned by arabs) caught on to this loophole, and bought heating oil exclusively to sell as diesel.

They made hundreds of millions, and ran their competition out of business.

They were able to keep it quiet because they network pretty closely with other arabs, and kept it quiet.

By the time the gub-ment caught on, they had already made a real killing.

I don't think the original premise was to be checking every individual tank going down the road,it was to keep suppliers from using un taxed fuel as a taxed fuel, but being the govt it turned into this. :rolleyes:

Farmers

I believe it started out as a tax break for the farmers and turned into a tax break for railroads, construction outfits, and farmers. Turned into a nightmare for the IRS. They do not have the man power to enforce it.
 
My arguement is, and still remains:

Why should I be taxed for running a fuel effecient vehicle? I could be running a 2500 gas sucking v-10 back and forth to work. Its a daily driver and camper hauler. If I COMMERCIALLY use my truck, then fine tax me. It just seems to me I'm being penalized for my choice in vehicle.









Gonna put bigger injectors in my oil furnace so it smokes too:D
 
There is a huge rodeo every year near me and the farmers/ranch people love that stuff. Guess who was there checking out the trucks leaving the parking lot and did they ever have a long line of dressed up trucks pulled over. :D
 
I did some talking to this individual that was fined. He allowed them in because he felt he had nothing to hide and did nothing wrong. He figured since he had been paying his taxes (company and personal) and all the other fees required by Massachusetts that everything was OK. Also since their visit they have been back in his office doing a complete tax audit. Apparently they have found nothing wrong. He is now almost 65 years old and has been paying every year since he was 18. If I was in his shoes I probably would have done the same thing. And now I would have to fight too!
 
I'm rather new to the TDR, but I can tell you how the dyed fuel thing got started, (for those that were discussing it).



Back in about 1994 or so, EPA imposed a mandate that requires the use of low sulphur fuel for all on-highway vehicles. The idea behind the reduced sulphur was to reduce particulate emissions from our beloved diesels. At that time, the feds also stated that off-road fuel would be dyed, and highway fuel would not, and the various state DOT officials were given the task of enforcement.



Prior to that time, there were truck stops that would sell 'premium' fuel that was dyed red as part of the sales gimmick. Amoco also sold a premium diesel fuel at that time that was dyed red. Obviously, the new law put an end to their sales gimmick.



Well, this wonderful new law about the low-sulphur fuel also gave the revenue people the ability to check your tanks and make sure that they aren't getting cheated out of their tax money either. They're just taking advantange of of what the EPA put in to place for the benefit of reduced emissions.



Ever since the low sulphur fuel law went into effect, it's been a relatively common practice to check the fuel in the tanks on semi trucks for dyed fuel while performing truck inspections at weigh stations. When I was still driving over-the-road, I went through that a number of times. Normally, they would just look in the tanks with a light first, and if things didn't look right, they'd pull a sample. If it came up with traces of the dye, you were in deep!

Bottom line to this story is... ... ... ... the government unconstitutionally mandated low sulfur diesel for clean up of emisions after the fact that nearly all diesel engines where designed to run on older high sulfur diesel formula's.



That is a clear violation of the expost facto provisions of the Constitution as well as a "taking" under the 4 th amendment clause.



If the government mandates low sulfur fuel (which I am not opposed to... ... I like to breath clean air) then the government is liable and responsible to cover costs to modify our engines to safely burn low sulfur fuel as well as pay us for the cost of any fuel additives.



The random stops the Dept. of Revenue conducts to check fuel tanks are also unconstitutional in that it is an "unreasonable search and ceasure".



"Supposedly" you are not subject to search unless there is "probable cause " to believe that you are actively engaged in or about to commit a law violation or you pose an emminent immediate threat or danger to the public.



Reality check... ... ... the law enforcement folks do whatever they want to and there is not much any of us can do about it... ... ..... so just buy the legal pump green dye fuel and add plenty of fuel additive to keep the system lubricated.



AND... ... ...



Remember the crap you see and hear about government officials engaging in when it comes time to cast the vote at the ballot box. WE, you, I, and everyone else is the government... ... As long as WE let these idiots get away with shinanigans like this, they will keep on doing it and push the limits.

I do not advocate using off road fuel in on road trucks. here,I said it!(so this info is to be used for informational purposes only)

Years ago I knew a guy that was an IDF veteran,

he told me that their military fuel(gas in this case) was dyed red so of course they figured out that if they run the fuel thru loafs of white military bread(cut the loaf in half ,scoop some of it out to form a funnel,put a small hole thru the crust in the bottom)the filtered fuel will be dye free and could be used in their personal cars without fear of being inspected(or caught anyway)
