I gotta replace a bent rim soon. I want to check out a few salvage lots first. Question is when I'm looking for a rim is there anyway to tell if its bent?

Spin it on a tire balancer (with no tire on it) and look at the bead area as it spins. Most steel wheels allow for 0. 030-0. 060" for runout. I'm not sure what the limit is for these trucks.

If you have to make the check at a 'yard' I'd 1st run a hand over both edges as a quick check, if rim passes this check then sight along the rim's inner & out edge.

How badly is the original rim bent? Here in FL there are places that specialize in repairing damaged rims but if it's steel & the dent isn't too severe I'd take a big hammer to it.

Good luck.

get bent

Broken chrome is a usualy sign of rim damage.

I have to replace all of mine soon due to excess rusting. I wish one was good to pass along, but alas hey are all prety poor.

A tire shop showed me how bad the bend was. You definatly could see it wobble. But now I have that rim on the front. I've heard from some guys that they have been known to come off the factory like this.

I do have an other set of rims. But they are just steel rims. One winter and I'm affraid the will rust apart.
