Went to Costco to pick up my usual supply of Delo 400. Looked up at the price and it was $54. 95. Then I noticed that it was Delo 400LE (Low Emissions). Delo 400 used to sell at Costco for about $34 for a case of 6 Gals. Checked around a a couple of auto parts stores and they said all they carried was the LE stuff (at $10+ per gal).

Guess I'll have to start looking around for another suitable brand...

In my area it hasn't been ~$34 for maybe two years, and with the surge in oil prices it's been gradually creeping up. Still can't find it anywhere cheaper around here. The re-formulation of ULSD just gave them another excuse to stick it to us.

I bought the Delo 400 "LE" recently @Costco for $59. 00 OTD including sunshine tax. It has a designation of CI+4,not the new CJ.

The jump in price is why I decided to go full Amsoil. My truck now has Amsoil in every place that takes lube.

My last Delo 400 oil sample...

from Blackstone Labs showed normal wear but this info was included in the comments...

"Chevron Delo oil has changed since you sent in a sample as you can see in the molybdenum and boron. It is designed for longer oil use runs. "

My moly was 230 ppm and boron was 145 ppm. Previous samples showed moly was 2ppm and boron 10 ppm.

They suggested I could go longer intervals with this oil then the 5-6k that I'm holding to now.

When you consider doing your own oil changes, that's still relatively cheap.

That's around $2. 25/quart. That sounds reasonable to me given the stringent oil requirements for the new Tier 3 engines.

ABSOLUTELY - the cost advantage of the Dino stuff is evaporating - and unless outfits like Amsoil start taking advantage of the situation and also radically raise their prices, I'll be making the switch as well... ;)

I do all my oil changes (don't want the dealer to screw it up). If a $20 jump in the price of a case of oil is no big deal to you, please PM me and I will let you know where you can send the $20... :D

I can't send the $20 anywhere because I have already spent it on the additional cost of oil just like we all have on the additional cost of diesel. The point is, what choice do we have? I don't want to buy cheaper oil, i'm very happy with Delo 400. I may consider Gary's reply and go with synthetic.

I noticed that Delo had hit $50+/case at Costco before the "new, improved" formula. Then it went up some more. I still have a few gallons left; after that I'll move to synthetic and see how it works. Maybe I'll switch to syn first. Oil up, diesel up, blood pressure up...

my last 3 6 gallon cases of delo from sams have been $43 $48 $49, cheeper then rotella by the gallon at $54, i figured out one day the 55 gallon drum of rotalla they sell is only slightly cheeper (less then a quarter a gallon if i remember right) then buying delo in gallons and i don't have to have the heavy drum in my way, my bmws like the 15/40 delo pretty good so i run it in everything
