Chevron station and biodiesel content.

I'm in San Diego and pulled up to our Chevron station to fill up with $4.99/gallon diesel. To my surprise the pumps now read "May contain up to 80% biodiesel." I drove away. Went to an independent station and no statement of bio content. We've probably been on 5% for ages but 80%?

My bet is that it is not a typo. I think it is 80%. It is San Diego, after all. It could be 8%, but ".08%" is smaller than one tenth of one percent - not even worth mentioning.

I wonder if it was supposed to read like it does for E85, Meaning that it was 80% diesel and 20% Bio. I wouldn't think that a major supplier would be willing to sell something that only a very small % could use it! There are no off the lot vehicles that are certified to use anything more than 20% Bio blend! I'd have to pursue it with Chevron if that was my only choice or a LOT lower in price!

Take a picture of the sticker on the pump next time. Less than and up to 5% Bio is not required to be labeled. I CAN NOT obtain Diesel including red dye off road Diesel that has less than 5% BioDiesel in it here in Arizona even by the 55 Gal Drum. Some places have a label for B20 that is 20% Biodiesel.

B80 is 80% biodiesel and 20% #2 ULSD

Usually they like to sell B99 vs. B100 for the blended fuel tax credit.

Over B5 means you change your fuel filters and oil more often if you escape it's other side effects.

Ask me if high % of BioDiesel is right for you and your wallet when things go south!

"E85" is at least 51% ethanol/49% gasoline up to 83% ethanol/17% gasoline, basically, MORE ethanol than gasoline.

So, "B80" would mean MORE BIO than #2.

Nope. I should add that a sticker that read" This fuel may contain 5%-20% biodiesel" was on there for months prior to the additional sticker declaring the 80% biomass." I'll shoot a pic a verify. $4.99/gallon thanks to Dippity Doo and his exorbitant taxation and the fact that SoCal must burn C.A.R.B approved fuels. If anyone's in La or north of San Diego could you stop into a Chevron and check? $157 to fill the truck from about 1/8th of a tank. Time to park it for awhile.

I certainly picked the right time to start driving the Accord I bought from our daughter. I figured it up today, between the 7mpg difference between it and my truck, and the $0.85 less a gallon for gas, I’m saving $200 a month.

I think I would drive it until that tank was almost empty and then get some real diesel (if you still can) before I parked it.

Not sure where you live but in IA E85 contains 15% gas and 85 ethanol, except in the winter its 70% ethanol & 30% gas..

My self I have never heard of E85 being called or referred to Flex Fuel, I guess calling it flex fuel allows the ethanol content to vary, but true E85 should contain 85% ethanol & 15% gas ( except winter blend when its 70/30) not some blend between 51% & 83% ethanol content. With ethanol content all over the place no wonder I have heard more people complaining when using E85 in their cars here on the west coast...

We have discussed this a month ago or so, it is NOT 80% Biodiesel. I forgot what it was called but it is synthetic Fuel that is IDENTICAL to fossil fuel in any way. Problem is they haven't a name for that stuff here in the US and so they label it as 80% Bio which is totally wrong.

Maybe someone remembers that thread and can clear up that.
