s-10 conversion thread

I am working on a Cummins 5. 9 swap out of a 93 250 2wd with a 5 speed. I plan on swapping the engine and trans from the dodge to the Chevy truck. I am wondering a few things. The Chevy truck has a factory tach in the dash, is there a way to make this work with the cummins engine? Also with the Vacuum pump on the cummins work well enough for the brake booster, there are no other uses for vacuum on this chassis, or should a guy get a hydroboost from a Chevy pickup or something like that? Are you guys that are doing Chevy conversions using the gear driven power steering pump and just plumbing it into the Chevy system, or are you mounting a Chevy pump on the Cummins engine? Thanks for the help.

I used my GM Alternator

The tach is in the GM alternator, and if you use it your tach will work in your GM truck very accurately. You can also take your Dodge alternator and get it tapped at an alt shop. As far as powersteering you can tap into your GM lines with your Dodge pump. Mine also runs my break booster.

Are you talking about running the break booster in the 95 Suburban with the power steering pump? I am assuming that it has the hydraulic booster beings it had a 6. 5 according to your signature. I am wondering if the vacuum pump on the Cummins will be good enough to operate the vacuum brake booster in the truck. Also you must be talking about the tach being driven off the alternator on the 6. 5, I am pretty sure that this uses the tach signal from the distributor, but I will look into hooking it up to the tach from the dodge alternator. Thank for the help.
