I just traded in a 98 dually diesel for a '06 3500 dually diesel 4x4 QC 6speed manual --- 20k miles.

The "new" Ram will need to be checked out by a dealer, for peace of mind etc.

I am looking for recomendations of exellent knowledgable dealers in Chicago area for service/repair of the diesels ... ... .....

Where i bought the '06 is too far away, so that is not an option.

My 98 Ram was so trouble free that i never established a dealer for service or repair.

I am in Joliet

any ideas?

thanx

I have no idea but I certainly wouldn't go to a dealer! All they will do is tell you you need a bunch of stuff fixed so they can line their pockets!

Jdiepstra > in general i agree with you ---- but it is still under warranty and i thought a VIN check on the service so far would be a good idea ---- plus possible recalls etc ... ... ... PLUS - don't they have to be serviced at certain time/milage for the warranty to be effective ??

Well yes you do have to have certain services done at certain intervals or some warranty work may be declined. For the most part you can do the oil and filter changes yourself pretty easily. Anything you have a hard timne with I am sure there is a ton of info on here that will help. It will save you a lot of money to do it yourself. Just keep your receipts and document when you did the service so you can show the dealer if they ask! Good point about the service history and recalls. I don't live in Chicago anymore otherwise I would be glad to serve you up some good info on where to go. Good luck.

I heard there was a good diesel tech at Westside Dodge in North Aurora. I'm in the Fox Valley area and I was told he was the only one around, but I've never taken mine there so I don't know for sure. I try to keep up with service bulletins through TDR. Anything I can't handle I go to Total Power performance in St. Charles.

I have taken my truck into Westside Dodge several times for warranty and service work. The diesel tec is very very good I have spoken to him several times when he is done servicing my truck. We have discuss the TSB's that have been listed here and the issues with the emission equipment on the truck. I have asked his opinion on un-plugging the EGR, he smiled and said yes it could be done to eliminate soot build up. He would not recommend this because it is against the Federal emission laws. Which we both know he has to state this in order for the Feds not to fine Westside Dodge.

I have taken in copies of the TSB's found on this web site to the service writers at the front desk. They have attached the TSB's to the service report which the mechanic could read and discuss with me. I know he has seen these because we go over the service work when he is done. I have been very pleased with them.

Jim W,

Now that Westside is no more, do you have any idea where that diesel tech went? If not, where do you take yours now?

FYI, I know it is a little distance, but when I worked in Champagne, IL I got all my servicing done at Sheilds Auto in Rantoul. They sell both Dodge and Ford trucks but seemed very knowledgeable. Their Service Mgr, Dale, was very honest with me and treated me real well. I only had warranty work and oil changes done there.

Also, you might try Triangle Diesel Injection in Kankakee, IL. That is where I bought my Bully Dog.

Since Westside Dodge has closed, I am my own warranty shop also. My son is a part owner in a Diesel performance shop in the area and if I need additional help I can go their. They install all of the performance parts that they sell and service several trucks on the pulling Circuit in Northern IL.

I have used Dempsey Dodge in Plano Il. for some of my work on the truck in the pass with some luck. I would not use the chrysler dealer in North Aurora, I have used them once and was not happy at all. High price ($131. for oil change) and they did not grease the required fittings on the truck with the last oil change that was done their.

The WestSide Dodge dealer is now advertising as Westside. He is now an independent repair shop, I do not know if the diesel tech is still their or not.
