Hi,

Looking for some good manuals. I've always used chiltons or haynes. Both on my 86 1/2 ton and my 93 W250(CTD of course).

Want to do some tinkering, troubleshooting and all sorts of other stuff to my 01. 5.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Order the manual from Dodge, you'll be surprised how close the details and drawings resemble that of either of those manuals. I got the Haynes manual first (couldn't find a Chilton's specifically for my truck) and then ordered the shop manual. It took only a week to get it and I feel it has a ton more info than the Haynes.

For $12. 00 the Haynes cant be beat but the factory manual has a lot more in it for in depth repair but at $110. 00 with shipping its not cheap.

sberrio,

You will have to break down and buy the factory manual. Unless they have just released them I don't think anybody has a manual for the 24 valves out yet.

Chris

thanks guys

I fear you're right CCBRADY. I've been looking all over can't find a manual for the newer trucks. Oh well, it's only money.

I bought a chilton's when I had to replace my VP44 and it's the one that has all of the engines in it (including the Cummins). It's not as in depth as the one from Dodge, but it does tell you how to remove everything and other goodies, such as valve lash, etc.

I have to agree with the comments that the others have made. I have the Chiltons and it includes information on all engines, but it seems to me that the diesel gets shortchanged in some areas.

I haven't bought the factory manual or the Cummins field service manual yet, but I'm sure they would be more helpful than the Chiltons.

Definately get the service manuals...

Well worth the money.

But when you order, make sure you tell the fool on the phone that this manual comes in 2 Volumes . The price is for both. Just make sure they ship you both.

I had to call to get my Vol. 2 shipped... They did quickly, but what I was looking for, OF COURSE, was in Vol. 2

decision

As much as I like Chiltons, and its price. I like VERY specific info in my manuals. Going to stop by the dealer tomorrow and put them on order.

I might as well see if they have any neat aftermarket add-ons, while I'm there with the wallet open. :D

Have been using Haynes. It has better pictures than chiltons. Haynes leaves a lot of details for you to figure out.

Just ordered shop manual from techauthority.com

$90 plus shipping and tax. ouchee
