2005 2500 quad cab...

Recently a new chime has started to sound (only once, about 1 sec. in duration) as the truck accelerates, just after the doors auto lock. Two weeks ago, grandson was playing (supervised) in the driver's seat, turning knobs, pushing buttons, pulling levers. Now the left rear cab door doesn't lock or unlock electrically.

My question is... was the chime letting us know that one of the doors was not locking to begin with, and we just noticed it after grandson was turning, pushing, pulling? No codes show up in the odometer, or does it need to be hooked up to a higher power to retrieve those deep dark numbers?

Sounds like a bad connection for a "Lamp out" indicator. System uses about 7V with no current to check that lamps are "ok". Corroded or arced connector, generally at the bulb, looks "open" to the system. When it gets hit with higher 12V+ it turns the lamp on. For some reason the intermittent connection doesn't latch the Lamp Out on long enough to see it.

I would replace all external lamps and their sockets at the same time. New lamps will have the connector wire in the plug area be arced immediately by a bad socket. Aka Tail light boards and front turn signal sockets. Only if you have an intermittent lamp like one front/rear turn signal can you replace the known bad. Otherwise, rare for me to suggest, parts cannon shotgun style.

IMO the door lock INOP is a separate issue.
