I'm not sure if I have a problem or not. In the last two weeks, after I start my truck and heading down the road,my truck lets out one chime without any warning lights. I'm not sure what to check or do at this point. I've not made any changes at all. All though I did install a Smarty Sr POD,but I can't remember if this started before or after the install. Has anybody else experienced this?

A lot of the 03s have a "phantom" chime and if you happen to be watching there is a light flick. My truck has always done this on a very irregular basis. Sometimes it will not show for months and than out of the blue there will be a few of them. This is nothing to worry about and as far as I know no one has a cause for it.

check the connections for your tail light bulbs. The chime is the light out. Check the bulb to socket connections and the truck wiring to tail light connections. If there is any corrosion just replace it. If it looks clean put some di-electric grease in there and see what happens. Both fixes can clear the problem

The tail light bulbs were the first thing I checked. I fought the chime several years ago when I installed aftermarket tail lights till I figured out using grease on the bulbs. I guess I won't worry about it and put up with another irritant.

Thanks for the help.

We have chase the ghost chime down too PCI interruption at times,So until it develops into a continue chime its almost impossible to find the cause, when it does it generally turns the brake light and ABS light on. 100s of errors may cause this.

I figure its just another thing I need to put up with that can't be fixed until it does it all the time or throws a code. It doesn't concern me,I was just wondering if anybody else had this issue.

Thanks fellas

Casey

Ahhh Yes

The curse of the elusive chime.

I have the same problem and the tail lights have been taken care of already.

I started watching the instument cluster like a hawk, and notice that it seemed to do it when I hit the magic number of 20 MPH. Exactly when the grid heaters shut off and the volt meter would come back up.

Sometime I would get a momentary flash of the odometer and the 4X4 light at the same time and sometimes a flash in another area of the instrument cluster but not long enough to see what exactly flashed. Several times a flash of all the warnig lights in the cluster. Only noticed all the lights on 2 occasions.

I would ocassionally get the flash with no chime.

And some times nothing at all.

It's not all the time sometime once a day sometimes one a week and sometimes not for months.

As long as nothing stays lit I guess it will be hard to find.

Here's one for you guys. I get a tone sound when the doors auto lock at about 20 mph. Anyone else get that one?

It could be the "check gauges" light on the left side of the dash. Mine will do that out of the blue as well. I've had the "lamp out" chime before and finally I replaced the light bars for the tail lights. I believe there is a TSB for a re-flash or update to get rid of the random "check gauges" light and chime, but I just learned to live with it.
