April 7th a day to celebrate!!

How to start your driver

has anyone had any experience with these engines? Yamaha entered into a joint venture in 2004 with a chinese co. I have been looking at a 250 cc

off road go-kart and was concerned about available parts and reliability.

they are called (Linhai Yahama)

Jerry,

I hate to brake it to you buddy, but that's no Yamaha. I'm a general manager at a Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha/Polaris/Bombardier dealership here in Middle Tennessee and we get this ALL the time. Check the spelling on the name. It says Yahama, NOT Yamaha. Yamaha has not "partnered up" with anybody. You CANNOT get parts for these things. The people who sell them tell everybody "It's a Chinese Honda, you can get parts from the Honda dealer" or "It's a Chinese Yamaha, you can get parts from the Yamaha dealer" but it ain't so! A friend of mine at church just bought a scooter from one of these guys and now he can't even get tags for it because it's not EPA certified. Stick with the name brands and you won't go wrong.

Don't buy those knock off brands.

My buddy looked at being a distributor for a brand that looked like Yamaha. A lot of the parts even looked like Yamaha, but the quality was crapola.

I took one of the 110cc quads out to the beach to run it against an older Honda TRX90. The Honda was the better performer hands down. I could not keep the automatic clutch adjusted on the knock off. About every half hour it had to be readjusted. At the end of the day the knock off ran, but seem to have a miss to it. The Honda was running like the day it was brand new.

This is with only 8-12 year old kids riding them.

Stick w/a brand that BigPapa listed.

Name brand has always been my first choice, but what I am looking for is something like the old Honda odyssey. it must have a bucket seat, preferably two with three point safety belt. It cannot be a seat that you straddle. The purpose for all this is it would make a good starting platform to adapt to hand controls. My boy does not have the use of his legs or feet (CP).

To my knowledge there are no name brands available. If there is something available, let me know.

Keep in mine R&D means "receive and duplicate" in Chinese.

But on my side step tubes I bought from Ebay, they did a pretty good job of duplication!

Sorry to hear about your boy's situation. A buddy of mine lost the use of his legs in a three wheeler accident several years ago. He switched to a Honda Pilot. They are spendy though.

I bought one of those Chinese 5K diesel generators with a so-called "Yanmar" clone 10hp aircooled diesel. The day I needed it, I hooked it up to the house(Gen transfer switch) and about 1. 7 hours later, it launched the balance shaft through the side of the crankcase!! All the hardware on the generator was "soft". You could strip out any bolt easily. As they say... . You get what you pay for!!! I now use a 7. 2K 2cyl military generator built in 1968! that is about bullet proof.

Jerry,

I'm sorry about your son. To my knowledge, no one else has ever built anything like the Odyssey or the Pilot with hand controls only. There are lots of go-karts out there but they all use foot pedals for the throttle and brake.

With some ingenuity you could possibly adapt the thumb throttle and hand lever brake controls to something like the Tomberlin Punisher. This would require some re-engineering to fit a handlebar or a steering yoke where the steering wheel is, along with some custom cables and a brake master cylinder. We sell the Punisher and we have had pretty good service from them. Check them out here:

I will be glad to assist you with this in any way that I can. The best thing to do would be to aquire the basic parts needed and take them along with the go-kart to someone like a machine shop or a very handy small engine or motorcycle shop and have them put it all together. It will require a great deal of fabrication.

If you can find one, the 350 Odyssey and the Pilot were lightyears ahead of the old 250 Odyssey. They both offer reverse and great independent front and rear suspension. They are also both pretty fast, the Pilot especially. Both offer full roll cages and racing style safety harnesses so they are pretty safe in a large open area without obstacles, say an open field. One good safety feature from them that would be good for you to incorporate into the go-kart are hand restraints. These are basically strap loops that you slide your hands through before grabbing the steering yoke. They are not tight on your wrists at all. They keep you from the natural tendency to put your arm out in a roll-over situation. I saw a man break his arm severely in an old 250 Odydssey doing that.

Good luck,

Scott

This wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened - anyone remember products made in Usa, Japan?

I'd look into the pilot if you can afford it - they are FAR better machines than the odyssey ever dreamed of. I know a guy that recently became a paraplegic from a motorcycle accident and he's currently building a trike out of a Kawasaki ZRX1200 so he's probably familiar with a lot of the hand control issues and probably has a lot of sources for the controls if you'd like me to get ahold of him.

GOD, those things are JUNK!!!!! I have a friend who was SUCKERED into buying a "truckload" of the chinese knock-off junk. It included several "Honda clone" gasoline engine powered items (generators, pressure washers, air compressors) and the "Yanmar clone" generator like you mentioned. He tried his best to sell it to me. Even cranked it and put a load on it to show me that it really worked! I told him I was not interested at all and I would gladly spend 4 times the price to get a GENUINE Yanmar powered generator from Northern Tool.

I will not support the chinese (They are enemies of our country) and refuse to buy "knock off" of ANYTHING, including prescription drugs. I would rather support the company who did the research and development of the product, the company who BACKS their product with support and parts, and the company who has QUALITY CONTROL. That is something chinese junk severely lacks.

Try Coleman's Military Surplus. They are in PA. Also ck out Saturn surplus. They kave a complete spare parts line for the engines and the parts are cheap. Colman's has the complete units. They start on 24 volts so I used two lawn tractor batteries in series to come up with 24 volts. I also made up a small battery rack that fit in the area where the 24 volt battery origionally fit. The 12volt lawn tractor batteries are cheap

The only other place where I see the generators is ebay
