My Father has a "03 6sp w/ a stock replacement afe proguard 7. He is thinking of getting a "chip" for his truck. He does not want to do any other mods or install guages. He would just like a bit better fuel economy that the "chips" seem to get. I was wondering which "chip" would work the best for him and what some of you are running. I was kinda thinking about the DR. Performance Predator chip. Does anyone have one? I was also wondering how the FASS system works on the '03's my brother has one on his '01 and it seems to help a bit.

Thanks for the help

Looks like the best bang for the buck is a smarty catcher. Marco is in the process of creating one for the 3rd gens. Below the products and accessory forums is a place to read about it. The plus side is it is undetectable by the dealer.

First of all, you shouldn't be adding any fueling enhancements without at the minimum an egt gauge.

That said, I think you should get something like an Edge EZ or Quad XZT, or perhaps a downloader like the Bully Dog Triple Dog, or even better the Smarty when it comes out.

But be sure to get an EGT gauge! $200 is a lot cheaper than a melted piston or dropped valve.

buy a triple dog downloader by bullydog for around $450 and install a pyro in the srt-10 single pod gauge holder that comes factory from Dodge. Can't go wrong with that set-up. If he every changes his mind he can sell the box to a ford, chevy, or dodge owner, ... same box works in all three.

I ran that exact combo for a couple of months. I had the Westach boost/egt and T-Dog. Worked great!

Now I have an Isspro EV EGT on the pillar.

First place, I'm not sure you need a FASS in an '03. Better check that one out.

Second, I had an Edge EZ in my truck and liked the way it "woke it up. " OTOH, it did nothing for mpgs. I got 20 mpgs before installation and 20 mpgs after. The EZ is now off the truck because it got to where it took too long to crank. Now that it's off, the crank time is normal. I didn't need the extra power anyway.

The Edge EZ is a great product but if you are just wanting fuel economy on an 03 then the van Aaken C3. 1 is the way to go. It is an inexpensive box which gives you 70 HP and a nice fuel economy gain.
