Amazing Commercial!!

grand caravan forums

On the new Geico commercial where the Gieco is talking to the tree lizard, he references "chips and pie".

I assume it is an Australian thing? If so, what are chips and pie?

Chips = fried potatoes of french fries, pie, I don't know.

Well the all knowing wife just shared that Pie was Shephards Pie.

I still don't know what it is, but I can at least act like I do.

Ok guys I got this one figured by the help of a englishman from work.

I asked him what "Pie" from the Geico commercials meant.

He knew exactly what commercials I was speaking of and fondly answered that "Pie" in the UK is different from what we consider Pie here the states.

Yes, they have regular pastry type pie (ie apple pie, cherry pie etc) over in England but he said the pie that the geico gecko is speaking of is "Savory Pie". Savory Pie is a meat pie that can be made from beef, pork, chicken etc.

He said that pie in the UK is as common for lunch as cheeseburgers in the US.

The "Savory" pies usually have a heavy gravy filling to compliment the meat and are probably the size of an american hot pocket and share the same type of heavy breaded shell.

He also said that the vernacular of the Gecko was "Cockney" a language type that is used in the south east part of England London area.

FYI...

In the midlands and the south of England the pies are known as "Cornish Pasties". The Cornish coal miners did not have any way to cool anything and Mum or the Missus would make them a couple of these meat pies that could be carried easily and were filling. "Chips" are allways what we would call french fries, eaten with Mayo, not Catsup. Or maybe a bit of Malt Vinegar and salt.
