Has anyone had #09-004-06 done on their truck? Did it work? Was it covered if you are still in warranty? I inquired at my dealer today and was told that it is not warrantable so it would be on my dime. Does this sound correct?

I believe TSBs should be covered under warranty if you have the issue to which the TSB applies.

Does the chirp bother you that much? It really doesn't do much harm to the belt.

If my 12 valve didn't chirp, I worried something was wrong!:-laf The quick fix for that was a Goodyear Gatorback belt. Never chirped again. What years does this TSB cover? My 06 doesn't chirp.

The TSB is 09-004-06 and is for years '03 to '06.

I had an 04. 5 that chirped all the time and when I traded it for my 06 I found that I missed the the sound of the chirp as the new truck does not have it.

I like the chirp. Part of the character of our trucks!

I do miss the rrrrraack-a-tack-a-tack sound my NV5600 truck made on shutdown. The auto just isn't as cool-sounding. Also the starter engagement sounds weak with the auto. Not nice and solid like on the SBC flywheel.

On edit:

Sorry, I guess I didn't help with your question...

No, I haven't had anything done. It doesn't bother me at all.

To answer your question, yes it works, and it is only covered for 3/36 even if you have the problem. Most of the TSB's say "reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty" which means the warranty that applies to that part.

what do they do?

as stated it's just the nature of the beast ... doesn't hurt anything

i'd be more concerned about a dealer messing under the hood trying to "correct" a perfectly normal sound than the chirp ...

I had it done on my 05. It works, no more chirp. I thought they added another idler pulley or something. Mine was free at the same time they recalibrated my speedo for my 85/285 tires. I had to reinstall the aircleaner box correctly after the guy finished... ... but guess you cant complaine too much about FREE

To clarify, I really don't give a rat's patootie about the sound, but after my serpentine belt shredded at 28,000 miles I began to think, maybe mistakenly, that the little slippage that causes the chirp may be taking its toll on the belt. At the price of the dang belt and for what a ballbuster it is to change, I was hoping for better belt life. I might call customer service(that's a laugh)to inquire about coverage during the 3/36 period.

Didn't have any noise till I changed the belt , I think in my case ,its just the sound of the newer belt gripping more / cleaner .

Its a 3/36 TSB and works. It is a one way clutch pulley that goes on the alternator.

The engine stops faster than the alternator can. Mine didn't chirp all the time but when it did I didn't like the thought of the belt sliding across an alternator pulley that is still turning.

Can you give me some ammunition to show it is a 3/36 covered issue?

I called Dodge customer service this morning to explain my situation and they backed the dealer and said it is NOT a warrantable repair. I politely voiced my displeasure with that and was basically told, "too bad".

I would just go to a different dealer than trying to fight them on this. If you read the TSB at the bottom under "policy" it states that the service is reimbursable under the vehicles warranty. What this means is that the dealer can be reimbursed for doing the repair as long as your truck is under the 3/36 period.

The "Time Allowance" is what DC will pay the dealer "in labor time" to complete the TSB.

The TSB is here:

TSB 09-004-06

Matt400, thanks for the info. I'm not exactly pleased with the dealer now that I have seen the TSB and how it is spelled out, but why wouldn't the moron in customer dis-service not be able to read the same information that you and I can? I am an understanding person but shyt like this gets under my skin. I'm not trying to rob something, I just want what's coming to me.

I know what you mean. You could print the TSB, stop in at another Dealer and let the Service Dept know you have this squeal on shut down that's been bothering you and just so happens you found there is a TSB for it so you printed it in hopes of saving them some time submitting it for warranty.
