Getting ready to buy a printer. I have had Cannons for the last 2 and they have both quit prematurly.

Looking for a different one.

I like the Epson brand. I am on my second one now. The first one lasted for 5 years it was a Stylus 740 Color model. The one I am using now is Color 880 model. It is around 2 years old and I have had no problems with it.

My daughter got 6 years out of a Epson 740 also. I bought her a Lexmark X75 to replace it. ( This is the model with the scanner built into it). It seems to be harder on ink and the refills are higher than Epson refills are.

Photo quality printers are way cheap these days. The manufacturers subsidize printer sales with the high price of replacement ink cartridges. Personally, I like Epson printers. They have excellent photo quality and the ink is cheaper than HP. The higher end ones have things like card readers and camera interfaces.

I finally went with a Brother laser printer (blackandwhite) for most of my printing and use a HP inkjet for the color stuff. I got tired of buying ink cartridges all the time with the inflated price tags.

The Brother costs about $225 and the toner has lasted more than six months now. I still have to buy ink cartrdges for the HP but not near as often.

PS - I just took a look at the Staples web site and I see that the Brother is now $150. Now I'm POed that I spent $225 :)
