Elite Diesel Nationals - August 28th

Get Together

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggg!

My wife just informed me that we have to go to a wedding tomorrow. She didn't put it on the calendar. #@$%!

Someone please drink a couple of beers for me.

Scott

There was about 6 of us that showed up. A good time was had by all. Maybe I'll set something else up after the first of the year. The new trucks that were there were really nice.

Mike

Good time. Thanks for setting it up Mike. Good seeing a couple of old faces and a couple of new ones. Hope we can set up another get together after the first.

Merry Christmas to all.

Dave

How long did it go? I thought about heading up there around 2 when I was done working, but I figured it was probably over with. I wish I could have gone.

Can't believe I spaced it. Rough year.

I remember the meet & greets when we had 20+ members show up, then the PowerStroke club joined in. Not very social anymore are we.

And I still need to get my truck on a Dyno.

We'll have to get together this spring sometime. There were 6 or 7 of us there. Nothing like the old days. Just can't seem to get the interest or attendance.

Mike

Mike,

What do you think the reason for the lack of interest or attendance is? I know we wanted to go, but I ended up having to work.

Craig

Personally, I believe it is because there is no real dedicated leader who will take the bull by the horn and make things happen. It was pretty good when I had time to do it, but the last 2 people doing it do not get involved nor were they dedicated to organizing things and generating the interest. I understand that things come up in people's lives and they have to change their plans is why some people could not make it this last meet & greet. I have no problem with that. It takes some one dedicated to generate interest, set things up and follow through. And you have to do things that interest the group, not just something that is near and dear to you that you are going to do anyway wether others are interested or not. JMO, I'll get off my soap box.

Mike

I'd guess that in the early 2000's the performance mods to the diesel pickups was peaking and made a huge difference to the daily drivers. Now the trucks out there are getting a little to expensive to tweak thanks to the emission standards, and the stock power levels of current manufacture are almost double what they were 10 years ago. Ergo - lack of interest. Not many of us left with the 1st and 2nd gens.

The good ol' days when 60 trucks would show up to a dyno day and 500hp was an honorable feat. Now it is considered a minimum for mention.

I also suspect the cost of Diesel has a huge impact. We didn't care so much with 10-15mpg @ 1. 25 a gallon.

Yeah, Mike has a good point as well, probably more accurate than mine.

Might be a combination of both. Even the NCPSD club has the same issues, and Shay is still the ring leader.

Agreed. That's what I thought too.

I think Mike hit the nail on the head. It is just finding someone who wants to do it and someone who is willing to invest some time. It doesnt take a lot of time but nonetheless some. That was the reason I stepped out of it. I couldnt devote the time to it anymore due to my work schedule going crazy and I didnt want to be the one that killed it by allowing it to languish into obscurity. Thankfully Mike stepped up at that time and continued on, he had helped me immensely even before he took over. I can recall from experience and I think Mike would concur (as well as anyone else who has done it)that it is a thankless endeavor you just do it because you like to. You get some crap about why didnt you do this or that or why didnt you do this this day instead of that one. You just have to realize you cant please all the members all the time so you do the best you can and set stuff up, get the word out and hope that people show. One thing I noticed was that it took a bit to get stuff going as in turnout but once the word got out that stuff was going on turnouts got larger and larger. While a dyno day, a wrench day or vendor sponsored event was always great I think most members just liked the comaradie of the get together whether they actually participated or sat on the sidelines and helped or just watched the antics.

And speaking of antics anyone remember Nick Ploysia's propane fired turbine he fired up at one of the get togethers as we all stood back as he fired it up wondering if it was going to blow.

Oo.
That was a hoot! Jump started with a leaf blower. Kind of hoping for the darn thing to start scootin' across the floor.

Mad Dog shelling 2 turbos at an ATS dyno day.

5 fat guys in the back of a truck at PFI to keep traction on the dyno.

The PSD club showing up short and late to their own dyno days... Another in a snow storm (what did we get, 8" or so?).

Those ATS "Summits" were a blast I thought. I ran into NPloysa a few months ago. He has a '08 now. Same old Nick. I'm not sure if he's on here or not anymore.

One way to at least get the attention of the CO members (new and old as we see them in other sections) is to let them know about this forum, and give instructions on how to subscribe to it so they will get email notifications when a new post/thread is submitted.

Forum home (https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/mountain/), Forum Tools, subscribe to Forum, select email notification type.

This is the first time I have been in this section in over a year.

It would still be the RMTDR if someone would have left things alone when they took over. I didn't agree with what was done at the time but there was not much input on it so the TDR did what was requested. I go to a couple other diesel sites. One of them seems to be a lot of younger people just getting into trucks and starting out in life. Not anybody from the old group I recognize goes there.

The propane thing Nick had was scary and then there was that kid who used to bring a 55 gallon drum of meythel alcohol to things to sell to the group. The guys at PFI were good folk for being a bunch of ricers. They had respect for the horsepower diesel trucks were putting down.

Mike

Whoever steps up at the time to start a get together.

In the case of the last Christmas party, it was a joint venture of Milehiscott and MLockner.
