I just noticed some bubbles coming through on the chrome side steps beside the black pads on both sides of the truck. Truck is only 2 years old with 52K on it. These are the dealer installed units that have been on the truck from new. Anyone know for a fact if they are covered under the corrosion part of the warranty?
Thanks

Mark

Mine bubbled a few years after they were installed, I bought the truck new in ‘06 and purchased the steps from the dealer then.

After they bubbled in ‘08 I inquired about warranty and was denied as the steps are considered a part where they were not installed at the factory so are only covered for a year after purchase which is pretty normal.
My Freightliner Parts offer the same coverage.

I had a similar problem on my 2012. I solved it by going with the Lund composite steps on my 2015 and now the 2018.

It's not just your steps the chrome is bubbling on my steps also thank the road salt getting under the step pads. I'm looking for set of steps that are a bit lower 2"-3" to the ground to replace the stock units.

I noticed some slight discoloring on mine ,no idea what it is , it won't wax off. Regret I didn't just get the automatic AMP steps when I bought it, probably would not have been that much more.

Most likely I will go to the AMP's anyway, IMO those OEM steps are junk, the rubber placement is okay when getting in ,but not so great when getting out of the truck, I am always stepping on the chrome part getting out. Live, and learn, will never get OEM again.

After getting in ,and out of my sons truck with the automatic Amp steps, I will never get another set of fixed steps again . Without measuring them I think they are a little lower then the OEM's I have. Regardless they are just nicer to step on to get in the truck , and they are up ,and out of the way when not in use.

His truck is used daily for a delivery business, those automatic steps are getting used many times a day, much more then normal usage, and they have been flawless.

I installed a set of AMP steps on my friends truck. They are nice I just don't think they are worth the cost.... Time will tell how well they hold up as there is a lot of moving parts out there in the road salt .

My sons have been thru 2 winters here in Utah, and they salt our roads. Just looking I see the OEM for my 2014 are nearly $600, thats halfway to the cost of some AMP's. I would have much rather put another $600 and had them , I kick myself now. Won't happen again

One of the reasons I went with the black powder-coated side tubes on my 2005, and would do the same on my next truck. And being frame mounted, I can literally jump and down on them and they don't even flinch.
