Chrome Discolored on rear Bumper

I just returned from a 2,000+ mile trip. When I went to the car wash, I found that my rear bumper, just above and behind my tailpipe has started to turn a splotchy gray. Has anyone else had this happen?? If so, is there a way to prevent or correct this condition?? I polish the truck frequently why is this happening??

My 05 did the same thing, I second the turn down.

It's soot. I use chrome polish,but it's back within a tank. Turndown tip is warranted.

It was also getting on the aluminum fender of my trailer doing the same thing, turn down resolved it.

none of my trucks get soot on the bumper... no reason to get used to it IMO

Personally I say no to turndowns, but that's just my preference. I had that all the time with my chip. I just bought a slightly bigger, and longer tip, to slide over the stocker (I cut the stock one back a few inches for aesthetics) to slightly extend my pipe. So it looked better stainless, slightly bigger, and no more bumper soot. I wanna say it ran me around $40 for the longer SS tip.

The other option is to do like me and put a set of stacks on it, no more soot on bumper. That is kinda the extreme fix though, I just did it for fun; although it is snappier with the stacks.

I have heard from several people that stacks will cover the entire truck with soot, not just the bumper. Your thoughts on this?

depends on your stack setup, but you'll probably have more soot on the truck than with a tailpipe.



I don't like turndowns either. I run all of my exhaust systems 90* or as close to 90* to the body as possible. straight cut. and cut about flush with the bedside or the tire. never any soot anywhere, and you don't kill that sweet exhaust note
