I have an 06 that has cheap plastic chrome covering what DC claims is a forged alum rim. Has anyone taken off these covers? What do the rims look like? Was it difficult? Does anyone have any pics? I know they put them on the steel rims also, which look pretty cool without them, but what about the alloy rims?

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BUILD SHEET (window sticker)!!

get back to the dealer ASAP if it says forged aluminum wheels and get the right wheels. my truck was supposed to have the folding towing mirrors and did not. they made a copy of the build sheet, sent it off to DC and then ordered a set of mirrors. installed them at no cost and gave me some fuel due to the hastle of the drive.

you have the "chrome clad steel wheels" on your truck right now.

cant answer your question as i could not get them off without risking the "alloy" wheel beneath. i have chrome clad alloys on my mega, and yes there is what appears to be the same polished alloy found on the 3500 slt models under the cladding. the chome cladding which looks decent from a distance is actually quite cheap and tinny upon close inspection. this feature is an "upgrade" with the laramie package. go figure. the dealer would not swap out for the slt alloy wheels when i bought my truck.

17" Chrome-Clad Steel Wheel.

Standard on 2500/3500 SLT, TRX4 and Laramie J.

17" Chrome-Clad Forged Aluminum Wheel

Standard on 2500/3500 SRW Sport and Laramie H, Available on Laramie J

17" Polished Forged Aluminim Wheel

Available on 2500/3500 SLT and TRX with SRW

I was wondering how they get the Chrome to stick to the forged Aluminin, now I know :(

Yeah I'm curios as to why the heck they would go so low on the most expensive trim model like this? My truck is an '05 SLT, My dealer Maxwell Dodge in Austin Texas, had the truck brand new with 14 miles on it, mounted with the stock stamped steel-chrome-clad wheel and 315 BFG All Terrains. When I test drove the truck I told them I loved it, I wanted it, but wasn't going to buy a brand-new truck where the tires rubbed the lower control arms on full lock. The management told me to pick out any oem Tire/Wheel choice on the lot that would make me happy. I choose the real Forged Aluminum Polish spoke wheels from a Laramie, then swapped the crappy Rugged Trail 265's for BFG All Terrains. I've never been happier. I noticed when the MegaCab was introduced, I looked at one with confusion on why what looked like the same wheel on my '05, now had plastic on the outside???? #ad
