I had a lift and new shocks installed about four months ago. My shocks have already started to get rust marks on them. As a result I'm looking to have my shocks chrome plated. What I'm wondering is if the chome plating will hold up in the winter with the salt that is used on the roads. If not is their any other options I might be able to concider.

I've also thought about having them powder coated.

Any thought would be helpful.

The chrome plating process has been under the eye of the EPA and, therefor, finding someone to do triple plating is getting hard to do. Most of the processes being used today will not hold up. And, in the 4x4 world, chrome plating suspension parts is generally a no-no. Consider powder coating.

Zinc plating is an option also. Alot of places that chrome, zincplate, and vice versa. There is not much you can do cheaply to beat salt... . unless you are under the truck all of the team keepin' things clean. Good luck!

I'm pretty certain you cannot powder coat shocks, as the oven temps exceed 400*F the seals won't hold up. This is what my powder coater tells me anyway.
