Rippin off the Tin

I also am taking the chromed tin covers off of my 06. Three down and one to go! There are nice looking forged alum wheels underneath that chrome crap.

I don't know how anyone would call this easy though. It takes a couple of hours to get them good and clean, without screwing up the finish. The CNC marks are kinda cool looking. Has anyone figured out how to make the plastic chrome centers to look like aluminum?

Any ideas?

Nicki

They have aluminum looking covers, maybe find someone who wants to swap? Hey Nicki, do you have any pics of the process like glue underneath and what the alloys look like?

What are you using for adhesieve remover?

THANKS!, Jim

Pics are in my Readers Rigs gallery. The pic of my wheel didn't turn out too well; it looks better in person. I just ordered some of THESE Supposedly there is a supply problem with them right now and they will be here by April. Overall, I am happy with how the OEM wheels turned out, but want something with a little more backspacing.

Nukeman, Is that bed liner on you lower belt line (1/4s) ?? I'm thinking of doing the same. Any regrets??

Won't more back spacing let the tires rub on your lower track bar?? These tires are 37's correct? Nice look! I like!!

Yes, that's Line-X on the lower panels. No regrets, love it. As far as backspacing, I want the tires to stick out a little further; I guess that is less. Not much, just a little to even out the look with the flares. Yes, they are 37's.

I assume you are getting the 17x9 American Racing Camber with the 4 1/2 inch back space. Be sure to post pictures of the new wheels when you get them on! I just can't make up my mind on wheels. (well I have, but they cost $420ea) I'm thinking of having my stock wheels widened after I tear the chrome off. Anybody done anything like that, say from Stockton Wheel in CA. I had Baja wheels done by them years ago and was real pleased.

Yeah, the Chamber's or THESE But, I will have to get new 22" tires. I keep getting the run around from American Racing. I guess they aren't making many 8 lug wheels right now or something and they aren't sure if the Chamber will be available.
