OK now that i have read about the ci and cj oils I went to my ownere book and it states CI 4 only and if you don't use it the valves could be burnt. Now i have been using Shell Rotella T for 41K and never thought I had to look at the API label. When i read the last TDR I went to walmart and shure enough shell rotella t is a CJ oil. My question is how long shouild I leave the CJ in and should I be conserned that I might burn out the valves? I never thought changing oil would be so confusing. And CI oil is not easy to get. The only one I saw at Wallys was their super tec. Thanks SkiOo. Oo.

I too am in your same boat... if you read the back of the oil jugs, any brand will do, it explains that the CJ oils are BACKWARDS compatiple meaning it is good for new 07. 5 trucks and all of our pre new emissions trucks. The TDR study showed all of the CJ oils at the bottom because the additive package I guess is less to meet emissions standards. The same great oils, Valvoline, Delo, Rotella, Delvac, are all STILL great CJ oils, just can't run them on real extended intervals anymore thats all. I have been hunting for CI oil as well and buy it whenever I can. Valvoline is coming out with a CLASSIC BLUE which is the old good stuff. You can usually find the CI stuff in bigger bulk now, might have to buy a 5 gallon jug or something instead of a gallon.

Soon there will be no CI so obviously you need something to run. . LOLOL The dealer carries CI4+ as well, but expensive. Napa still carries the FLEET PLUS CI4+ in the 5 gallon jugs. I have 6 gallons of DELVAC CI4+ so that will get me 10,000 or so miles. Many on here are reporting great UOA's with the new CJ stuff, so it really is no big deal. .

I ran 14,575 miles on my last CJ dump with good numbers. This next dump of CJ oil will be ~25,000 miles with 2 filter changes and 3 makeup quarts and I expect good numbers as well.

All miles are towing 8,000#-12,000# depending on how many horses I have on my 5,000# trailer.

JHardwick's results should put everyones mind at ease..... He is correct, most of us will never go that long, so if he can do it, must not be that bad of stuff. The more and more real stories I read like this the more and more I discredit the TDR oil testing results ( No offense)... . but if cJ oils are in the " HO HUM" category and you can go 25,000 miles... . who the heck cares! LOLOLOL

Just went to NAPA and they had some 5 gallon buckets of " Valvoline Universal Fleet" 15/40 CI4+. Was 62. 00 for the entire 5 gallons. Is this the same NAPA universal fleet that did so well in the TDR tests???

ci+4oiland cj oil

Thanks for all the info . I will keep buying shell rotella t and run it 6000. mi Don't know what I would do without you TDR boys ;);)

Hey guys; I'm burnin Mopar prem 15-40 CI-4+, and I had a virgin sample tested, and it appears to be pretty good stuff.
Part #'s for the CI-4+ are as follows:
Gals, 04798232 AE (4 gals per box)
Qts, 04798231 AD (12 qts per box)
My dealer parts guy gives me a discount on it when I buy it, and according to my oil analysis, has held up very well with "robust" TBN remaining.
