Don't know about any where else, But found some Shell Rotella T, Synthetic CI-4 Plus at Tractor Supply in Glasgow,Ky. They only had 10 of them @ 18. 95/gal. you can figure what I just spent... bought all 10 they had. So at lest I am set for 2 oil changes Oo.

Then not sure what I will do

I've decided I'll run the valvoline premium blue even if it is CJ... . It is only a matter of time until I'll end up running it anyway. With normal change intervals, I'm sure it will be more than sufficient.

If you are interested in a fully-synthetic, CI-4+ rated motor oil, Schaeffer's 9000 is considered to be a very high quality, reasonably priced product. It should remain available til 2010, also.

You can read more about it on ( bob is the oil guy.com). Check in the Diesel Oil Forum & Used Diesel Oil Analysis Forum.

Just did a virgin analysis of Schaeffers 9000 5w40 synthetic. It's posted on bob's site in the virgin oil section. For the money and the quality of this oil, I don't see why anyone would use anything else.

Cleaned the shelf at Wally World (6 Gal) of Chevron Delo 400 (CI-4 Plus). Learned a lot from that article on the cover of TDR. Thanks guys (TDR) for helping us buy better products. "knowing is half the battle" . . - (for any of you that can remember back that far) ha ha . . :-laf:-laf:-laf

My math shows three oil changes. Unless you swap filters between changes.

How many miles you running between changes?

Thanks.

Where can I buy Shaeffers oil at? I tried using my zip code, but it came up with nothing. Are there vendors on the site? Scotty

You can still get the Amsoil 15W14 or the Series 3000 5W30 directly on their website. I suspect they will keep this stuff around a long time.

Go on Bobistheoilguy.com

The salesrep is on there all the time as an advertiser, and I good guy to deal with. They'll ship it to you, probably from St. Louis.

wow cant you guys just run amsoil and be done??? it really is good stuff. i liked it so much in the truck I bought some from my amsoil dealer and run it in my air compressor that calls for mobil 1. wade over at ngm diesel was tellin me he runs it in his drag truck and i had been reading bout the mileage gains by switching to it but i wasnt ready to run the 5w-40 water jiffy lube reccomended. I gained 2 mpg. yal should really try that instead of wasting so much time lookings for "Fools Gold"

Yes, Amsoil is still Making the CI-4+ in the Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine (AME) formula. They plan on producing it up till 2010.

CI-4 + oil

Just scored 12 cases of Premium Blue Extreme CI-4 + from Cummins Atlantic here in Norfolk. Apparently they have more available. They only had 3 cases in stock but showed more in another warehouse. I had them call and verify the oil was CI-4 + not CJ. It was so I had them get me 9 more cases. (that's all I can afford at $18. 89/Gal). Funny thing is the new Preimum Blue regular dino oil has CI-4, CI-4 +, CJ-4 (as well as some older) API donuts on the label. Ken Irwin

Make sure read the fine print carefully on the premium blue API label. The new CJ stuff has the CI-4+ displayed large and bold but the CJ is in very small print at the top of the circle. Otherwise , same packageing and same part number.

DerekW,

Even though I do believe that some of Amsoil's products are of 'high quality', that doesn't necessarily mean that competitors products are second-rate or "Fools Gold", as you call them.

It appears, to me, that the only 'oil research' that you have done is to ask the opinions of your Amsoil dealer & Wade @ NGM Diesel. I don't believe that they are steering you into an inferior product but, that doesn't mean that there aren't other products, out there, that aren't the Amsoil equivilent, or better.

"The 5X40 water Jiffy Lube recommended" is not necessarily an inferior product in comparison with the 15X40. I don't know exactly what brand oil Jiffy Lube recommended but, if you live in a colder climate, the 5X40 'may' be beneficial. They both are 40's, once warm.

On Amsoil's website, their Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine, 15X40 was $25. 70/gallon. I, recently, purchased Schaeffer's 9000, 5X40 ("Fools Gold") for $18. 41 per gallon. Many consider this product to be of very high quality & verify there opinions with 'great' used oil analysis reports.

Yesterday, I saw Mobil 1, Turbo Diesel Truck, 5X40, CI-4+ for $22. 00-23. 00/ gallon, at Walmart. This is, also, considered to be a quality product & it's readily available.

There are numerous other products, out there, also. I would recommend that you go over to BITOG (bob is the oil guy.com) & do a little reading. You will be surprised at just how many quality products are available, to us. Besides that, you may gain an even 'greater appreciation' for the product that you choose to use.

It's actually like $19 something a gallon for preferred customers. And to become a pereferred customer is only $20/year, so if you put on enough miles to warrant maybe 2 oil changes/year, it becomes worth it.

ANYTHING over $100. 00/year is well worth the $20. 00 for "Preferred Customer"
