Are places like Costco selling Delo 15W40 CI-4Plus (The old oil) or CJ-4 (The new oil), in reading the Chevron site, it seems that the new oil in not related to the ULSD but to the 7. 5 trucks with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Oxidation Catalyst.

What do you know or think?

I just have been to China-Mart, Costco, NAPA, GI Joes and called a truck repair garage. CJ-4 is all that is available now. SNOKING

Yeah - I prefer the CI4-Plus stuff, but fear it will very quickly go the way of the dinosaurs...

I have several cases of the CI4 on hand, and will probably pick up more as I stumble across it...

now correct me if im wrong but as i understand it from my schooling this new oil should work fine in older trucks. i belive it is sae that says that all new oils have to meet the requirements of the old oil as well as the new. thats why i was taught not to worry about all the ch ci cj just remember which one is the newest and it will be the best for the engine

No one has to "worry" about anything at all - but we all have personal opinions and preferences, and are fully entitled to them. Some prefer synthetic lubes, some don't - some are entirely content to use the latest and greatest CJ lubes - some are not.

I personally don't much care WHAT others choose to use - won't try to switch them to MY preference - it's a free world. Use what YOU prefer, for whatever reason makes you feel good - I'll do the same...

End of story! ;):D:-laf

What are the big guys using? My understanding was CI-4 would be available to them until 2009 or so! BTW I too have benn hoarding the "old stuff":-laf

All i have found is the CJ-4 oil. You might can find CI-4 at a cummins dealer or any commerial dealer like that if that is true about 2009

I'm still seeing CI-4 at Tractor Supply Store, but only in the 2-1/2 gallon jug. The 1-gallon jugs are all CJ-4.

Interestingly, the cost-per-gallon is lower with the 1-gallon jug than with the larger one. Not sure whether someone mis-marked them or if there's another reason for this.

No offense taken or intended - it's just that usually threads such as this turn into a great debate about relative merits of various oil formulations and types - I was attempting to head that off and point out that there are lots of good choices where oils are concerned, with no need for pressure or debates as to which one is "best"... ;)

And the "smilies" I included WERE sincerely presented! :)

Both local auto parts stores carry the cummins/valoline in the 1 gal jug here in ci-4+. Even the local mart has one or two choices in that designation. Plan on obtaining the valvoline here soon in case in goes south.
