I've pretty well settled on the CIPA mirrors, the only question now is electric or electric/heated. My truck is a 2002 3500 with the big manual towing mirrors. My question for you guys is this:

The wiring harness is in the doors for the stock power mirrors (switch and mirrors). I know I have to buy a switch, knob and nut for the new mirrors, it should plug right in. Here's the hitch - I would like to go with the electric/heated mirrors, but can find nothing in the service manual indicating if this part of the wiring harness is also factory installed if you do not have the stock power/heated mirrors. I would think that DC would only use one harness for this truck, but you can never tell. I know I will also have to go with a different A/C control panel (the one with the mirror switch built in), that is no problem.

I also can find nothing in the service manual concerning a fuse or relay for the heated mirrors - just that it ties into the heating and A/C system. Are fuses or relays necessary?

Any help or insight into this would be greatly appreciated - I don't want to spend the extra money for the heated option if it won't work.

I have the electric(non-heated) version and like them. The only problem I can see, is that if you sit foward enough, you might have trouble getting the mirror on the passenger side adjusted in enough to see down the side of the truck. Right now, the best price I've seen on them is at www.acmetruckparts.com. Type in "mirrors" in the keyword search and page through the selection.

Ugly, perhaps... .

But they are the only ones I've seen with a built in seperately adjustable convex, LED clearance and turn signal lights, with options for power and heat. They also have interchangeable covers in either chrome (pictured) or black as molded which can be painted to match you vehical. They extend 4. 5" and have graduation marks on the arms, and they fold forward and backward. Oh yes, and replacement parts are available for them.

Truely signifies "to each their own".

FYI - I have been using the CIPA/Lucerix/X-mount mirrors for the last year. I have had vibration problems both retracted & extended. Automirrorsource (distributor) just sent me a new set under the lifetime warranty and I installed the passenger side last Sunday. It vibrated worse than the original ones. It vibrated at idle. I am returning the mirrors for a refund - for the amount of money I spent on the mirrors they should not vibrate. If I have to live with the vibration I'll spend ~$40 for a set of the clip on's.

That said, I understand some folks have had no vibration issues with their mirrors - maybe I'm just unlucky. Other than the vibration issue I love these mirrors - going back to my stock mirrors has taken some getting used to.

The distributor has been very helpful and I have no complaints with their customer service.

This is a personal opinion but I would always get heated mirror if I could.

On a previous trip to the mountain my stock missor fogged up just as I hit the curves and wanted to use them to see how things were tracking. It took ~30 miles for them to clear. Arrgg!!

Brian,

The site appears to have be down yesterday. The link is working again, but just in case:
