No namecalling; baiting; definitely no veiled or not so veiled threats; etc.

I'm in shock at the degradation of the overall quality of conversation the last couple months.

WE DON'T ALL HAVE TO AGREE ON EVERYTHING. If someone doesn't agree with you take the feedback and add it to your knowledge. It isn't a personal attack on your views -- and it shouldn't be worded as such. If it is worded as a personal attack I WILL delete it and it IS a violation of rules.

I agree!

It seems we have been very touchy lately.

I think it is the high fuel prices mixed with some cabin fever, come on summer!

You know your getting old when:

You live in America but you have to weigh every word you say. . in fear of being deleted. . or sued because you hurt someone's feelings. Amazing how things have changed. :(

Yes, times HAVE changed. Maybe I'm just too old, but when I was a young man, a man didn't use profanity in the presence of women. We responded to our elders with "Yes, sir" and "Yes, ma'am". Men were generally civil in their conversations with other men - if they weren't, they risked getting their blocks knocked off, and no one filed assault charges.

We had freedom of speech back then, but we also used that freedom responsibly. That doesn't seem to be the case today. So, you're right - things HAVE changed. :(

Considering the responses on the thread I posted, I had wondered about civility. I almost, as a new member, cancelled my subscription. Enough said.

Yeah, you did get hammered pretty good for a new guy. Hang around, it's worth it. I second the "cabin fever" theory. Nothing a little sunshine can't cure! :D

So, I'm NOT the only one who feels this way. I'm 38 BTW.

Rusty I'm 37 but agree with you how things have changed and there's just a serious lack of respect anymore. My big turnoff is the language allowed on TV (not that TV is generally wholesome but man alive the quality of programming in many was has certainly deteriorated).

The persona of TDR has changed a lot in the last 2-3 years. The TDR old timers can tell you heated debates like we often see rarely used to go on. When there was disagreements people were polite about it. I would say things started going south in 2001.

One thing that has been said before it's easy to let emotions go unchecked when there's not a face to the person you're having a disagreement with and you're conversing via a keyboard. We just gotta remember there's another person on the other side of the internet there, and avoid saying something you wouldn't say face to face.

I'm a newer member of only 28 years young, and I too have been turned off by the trash talk and have considered not renewing because of this problem. The trash talk makes usefull information hard to find and am pleased that something is being done.

Thanks

Yeah, and the email you sent to a certain member was VERY civil. That's all I have to say about that. [In my best Forrest Gump voice]

But darn if that wasn't a good thread. Bring that thing back. :D

I must say i have also seen it here lately but take it with a grain of salt, life is to short to worry if someone may have a different opinion. I also think that the tv has gotten out of hand, i mean for real and you all will probably agree also, im 30 myself and needless to say i find tv distasteful usually its the history channel or discovery channel with cartoons yeah i said cartoons, you can't beat the old classic shows that i grew up on. Wished they would bring back *F Troop* :-laf

As for the kids nowadays im sorry but the switching i took didn't kill me, i respected my parents, as for this time out deal PLEASE!! we won't even go there as that is the biggest joke.

As a science teacher I had in school had posted up above the chalk board * IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL *. But we all have our opinions and keeping it clean and wording it nicely goes a long ways.

Yes Vaughn, I agree. When there is no face, it's easy for things to get out of hand... whether it's a keyboard or a car. Look at all the inconsiderate things happening on the road! Faceless confrontation... . that's what road rage is made of.

I agree with you too Rusty JC. I am 35. Not a young pup anymore. Have watched teens giggle when they see someone handicapped, make fun of a proud veteran and step over a woman that dropped her groceries and it makes me sick. The bad thing is, the parents were with them and didn't do a thing to correct it. At the same time I have seen teens act very responsibly and do things I didn't have the sense to do.

Every generation "refines" the attitudes and actions of the previous, "refinement" isn't always good.

Yeah, I got out of hand myself and I'm sorry for that, but I would also be the first to apologize when it cools down.
We have to ask the great moderator if we can bring it back.
I have been following up on the TSB with a D/C person, I wish not to name.
